Experience with Niche Gaming blogs?

I was wondering if anybody has any story or experience with developing a gaming niche blog. What I mean by this is a blog specifically for Dota or League of Legends, or Fifa, NBA 2k20, Call of Duty, etc.

Did you find it difficult to rank? What kind of traffic were you looking at? What ways did you monetize the traffic?

I'm just curious as I am exploring my options to work with Amazon Affiliate (recommending gaming products).

I didn’t try a specific game, but I had a general gaming blog several years ago. I was unable to become an authority in any game and hence wasn’t really able to rank. Abandoned the project after a year.

I previously owned some gaming blogs and the most profitable method is to use adsense + Affiliate marketing which offers gaming related stuffs like amazon. The only difficult thing is to product content that big blogs do not currently have or to be the first one to post recent announcement or news.

Combine the blog with vlogging on youtube/twtitch.
