I experienced the new IG algorithm on my personal account today.

Here's what I noticed if anyone is curious / hasn't experienced it.

  • I get an advertisement every 10-13 photos
  • Any photo posted within the past day has a chance of being high or low in my feed - posts after a day do not find their way into my recent feed. I could get a post from 10 hours ago first, or a post from 5 minutes ago first.
  • People I engage with most appear closer to the top of my feed - regardless of time posted. Again, if they were posted within the past day.
  • People I don't engage with a lot are pushed back in my feed, regardless of account size... some accounts with 30k likes a post that I never really like were pushed back. Even if they posted within the past few hours.

Takeaway? Accounts with high engagement have the advantage & I need to work on my engagement!

Yeah Instagram algo will be changing a lot in the next few months because everyone is flocking to it.

Hasn't Instagram already said they have not YET rolled out the new feed?

Plus, any scoop on the deleted "Log out" button?

Is it pushed back in the feed when YOU don't engage with the account, or when the account hasn't an overall good engagement ?

The larger account that was pushed back in my feed is a photographer - alexstrohl

Big + good engagement. That said, I saw it... meant scrolling through 10-15 more photos. Which doesn't feel like I lot. I personally spend a good 5 minutes on my personal account catching up on things.

I updated the app a few days ago - I still have a log out button. New addition - I can add an account so I'm cycling through my personal + 2 other accounts.

Are you 100% sure you were not drunk when you experienced this?

Instagram has twitted this less than 24 hours ago:

"We're listening and we assure you nothing is changing with your feed right now. We promise to let you know when changes roll out broadly."

I updated to the latest version, the feed is still chronological and I still have the logout button.

Best Regards,
Jaymien.

I heard changes are coming this week but nothing seen yet on my end

The reason some people are experiencing the missing logout button and some are not is because it's only affecting people that use iOS.

that's not as bad as i thought it would be, if you have an account in a popular niche you should be able to grow it pretty fast with this algo.

I am trying using IG but always fail.
No much success.

It is, the effects of the change will be:

-HUGE Engagement for the accounts that already have good engagement
-Lame ass engagement for accounts that doesn't have good engagement (e.i, like your account grown with Followliker)
-Serendipity will be killed:if you see more photos of people you've already like the most. The chances of discover new content are fewer.

looks like that "turn notification on" post wave on Instagram made some people start hallucinating.

nothing has changed yet. the only thing that has changed is that IG now allows up to 60s videos.

stop spreading false information.

my feed is the same nothing changed

but on ios i am not able to see the
- logout or add account on the settings menu

- add account is still available if you click on the dropdown meny of the account name

but i dont understand why they had to remove the logout button what is coming next ? only facebook login or something like that?

while on Android i just updated everything remains the same when it comes to logout and add account

interesting days ahead

Yeah. That's unfortunate. Facebook is imposing it's ways.

-Lame ass engagement for accounts that doesn't have good engagement (e.i, like your account grown with Followliker)

Why would that be? I'm growing with Followliker and my engagement is okay.

Ah, the filter bubble....

Read an article online from someone that has invested in Instagram and from what they're saying the first x few posts will be top posts / non chronological algorithm based content but after you scroll down the rest are in chronological order.

I haven't seen much of a change in my feed as far as who I follow and their posts. But I have seen a ton of morons with that "turn on my notifications so you see my posts" crap LOL, I think those are hilarious.

I'm not making this up. Just trying to help.

Here's my first 5 posts by time + engagement today. This is my personal account.

1 - friend, posted 10 hours ago, some engagement
2 - friend, posted 29 minutes ago, some engagement
3 - big account, posted 10 hours ago, engaging a lot with this photographer lately
4 - friend, posted 10 hours ago, some engagement
5 - friend, posted 8 hours ago, some engagement

It goes on like this... Not by date anymore.
