Hi

so expensive auction domains which are not indexed in google but got solid links from sites like bbc, ny times etc, are they worth it for SEO?

reason i am asking this is i see some of these domains which are gonna expire soon are indexed in google, while some are not...

Does it really matter from SEO point of view? or both indexed and non-indexed domains will hold same value as long as the links are good?

Please note that i am not talking about expired/closeout domains from godaddy which costs $5-10

i am talking about domains not expired yet, and cost $100 plus through auctions

Well as long they not get banned is not a problem.
But it rises the question, why the domain not indexed.

Not indexed? What if penalized by Google?
Domain for 100 bucks isn’t expensive

it depends on why it's not indexed
is it because the owner didn't want it indexed or because it was used as a pbn and got deindexed?

chance of it being a PBN is close to nil , just not sure why its not indexed

Reasons why the domain isn't indexed is, that it has been offline for quite a while. It's absolutely normal.

Another thing why it might be deindexed is, that the parking page that was used for the domain was simply set to noindex.

No need to complicate the stuff. And it doesn't matter if the domain costs $5 or $100 or $5000.

Also, try to stick with the indexed domains, if you do not know how to properly evaluate their history.

If the domain is clean and has decent metrics, I am bidding on it. :)

Right on the spot. OP listen to this advise from person who know his stuff.

@Nargil is absolutely correct on this. Especially take note of the above statement. If you do not know how to do this fully, you could end up with a dud.

If your next question is, how do I evaluate a domains history. Search BHW, there is LOTS of posts explaining exactly how to do this. @Nargil has explained it himself so many times I have lost count.

I would steer cleer of domains that are not indexed, from my personal tests Google isn't as friendly to rankings when reindexing a domain, if you care about the short term that is, once it's indexed for a few months it'll probably be all the same.

I did further research on the domain, the backlink profile is very clean , all links from legit websites like usatoday.com n stuff... All branded anchor text...

What i found in this case was, the domain was 301 redirected to another domain of the company , redirect was done in 2018 (Reason for the redirect most probably is because the main domain name was bit long and company redirected it to a smaller domain name). 301 redirect done in 2018 is probably the reason why its not indexed in google.

I plan to make this my money site for an important project, i already acquired this domain for $500 through auctions,

What would you do in this case? Would you go ahead and work on it as a main project, considering above factors?

This does not define whether the domain was or wasn't abused. It might reveal only offsite SEO abuse, not onsite abuse, like PBN, etc.

301 redirect will most likely be the reason, however there's no need to be afraid of them. They are harmless. sometimes it's even better that the domain was 301 redirected, because you can be sure it wasn't "onsite" abused. Penalties from 301 redirects flow only one way.

The factors you mentioned really aren't an issue. But if you really want to put your mind to rest, send the domain over via PM and I will take a look.
