example niche research. please comment!

Lately I've been concentrating on finding a good niches and search phrases and I think I found a potential small niche which should be quite easy to break into. The niche is:

decanters

Here's why:

• word decanters gets 27,100 searches per month. also other decanter related phrases (wine decanter, crystal decanter, etc.) gets quite good amount of searches per month (few thousands).
• 1,800,000 competing sites without quotes
• 1,580,000 competing sites with quotes
• 244,000 competing sites for allintitle:
• several adwords ads
• Estimated Avg. CPC for decanters: ?1.28 (quite expensive)
• It's a product that gets bidded on ebay (it's a sign that people actually buy these online)
• On Googles first page for word decanters onposition 2 is a site that has only 162 backlinks and only 35 of them coming from different ip's. And all of the backlinks are low pr backlinks. So I think that would be the lowest competitor for this keyword.

So, based on these factors, I think it should be a fairly easy to break into this niche (and this keyword) and get on to page one in google serp.

What do you guys think? Am I considering the right factors on my niche/search phrase research ?

Hey that's pretty good. Everything I know about the subject says that niche would be worth testing to see how it performs. Although, I would try to target an even more specific decanter niche, instead of just decanters in general.

But then again, niche research is my weakest area... so I too would be interested in hearing others opinions.

Good niche research example. How would you monitize your website with decanter as the keyword?

Well, if you're part of EPN (ebay partner network) setting up an ebay niche store (with phpbay pro) around decanter and then getting it to first page would be quite profitable.

Or writing short review style articles for web 2.0 properties such as Squidoo, Quizilla, Scribd, Wetpaint (or doing a simple Youtube video) and that way driving traffic to related CPA offers (if any) OR ebay niche store. I think web 2.0 sites would be very easy to get on top-10.

I'm still having probs with this though :/

I have found good keywords (lots of monthly searches and low competitors), but i'm not sure if the keyword is a niche. And if it's not a niche, how could i benefit from finding these good keywords?

With a keyword like "Vintage Guitar", it's easy. It's a guitar you talk about, make reviews of, ...
but what with "ProductX benefits" or "ProductX designs".
Do i create a site about the product itself, only about the benefits or design, what domain should i take (ProductX.com (which wont be available), ProductXbenefits.com?), ...
If i find 2 good keywords on the same product, is it best to use them in the same site or should i make a site on both keywords (like the productx design and benefits)?

This niche finding is keeping me from rly getting into action for months.
Maybe it's just a click i have to make in my head, i don't know what to do realy. I think it would be easier if i could see some end results from other people, cause i don't really seem to know what the site should have as info on the product.
