Exact, phrase or broad when selecting keywords?

Maybe I'm trying to find keywords with no comp but whenever I see a decent keyword, I'll go to exact match and it will be something small like 20 searches/day.
I was wondering if you guys go by broad or exact match when doing kw research. This might be the reason I get no traffic and am failing at IM

I try both. Broad shows the maximum potential you could get if you own the searches. Exact is more releastic.

Actually, I tend to pay little attention to anything besides Phrase. I never pay attention to exact at all, because if you rank well for the phrase, you'll dominate exact rankings

yes, but if the exact comp is say 15k, you have all on-page optimisation and say gather 100 bls over a week you could hit 1st page (assuming you spied on the top 10 results and gathered that most didn't have perfect on-page optimisation)
