I have been reading a lot of exact match domains, I have heard that they have been nuked and I've heard that they remain unaffected. I am considering purchasing an EMD but questioning whether it is worth it. Have they been nuked or do they still remain the same? I am in a highly competitive niche where a lot of EMD's have been taken but I think I have found a good one, but is it worth purchasing? I have read that EMD's can do wonders when trying to rank in a competitive niche, but all the articles I am reading are from 6 months to a year ago. Let me know what you guys think, your help is highly appreciated.

Exact match domains still rank high in G. What "appears" to have happened is a penalty was introduced that slapped a lot of sites because of poor backlinks. (We have all tried to shorten the process at one time or another.) It just so happens that most people on BHW knew about the exact match bonus so most of us have more than a couple of EMDs.
So would I buy an EMD today? Sure, you bet, but I will qualify that statement. EMD is a great way to clue the Search engines in on where you want your site to rank. It seems couter-intuitive that you should buy a domain unlike your target niche to rank for it.
Anyway, my qualification is that I would not spend $xxxx on an exact match if I had to buy one through an individual, as opposed to just paying reg fees, unless the domain was something seriously special. Exact match doesn't appear to hold the bonus it once held, but others may disagree with me.

It is working for me, It was effortless for me to rank the EMD for a competitive keyword.

Totally agree with "thedorf" and a perfect reply. If you found one EMD , sure buy it. But if you have to pay extra for that , then think twice "what is most important to rank" after all those updates and upcoming updates . Focus and use your money on that.
Even after the so called "EMD update" I had no problem to rank my EMDs (3). Though just 3 example can't make a statement , I know.
