I have zero ideas why people would want to share openly with total strangers what makes them money and encourage direct competition.
I really, really do not understand this at all...
It's because the threshold for competition is razor thin, by comparison.
It's not like the market is a 100-square foot fish tank, and there's only so many fish.
It's not like any given customer funnels sequentially into a list of service providers or products.
(except when I'm looking for the best shelled and flavored pistachios, maybe)

Give, and it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together, and running over...
Water others, and you, yourself, will be watered, also...
You share your stuff, then you subsequently build a following, and some of those people also become customers of products and services along the way.

Not everyone is gonna appreciate your stuff, either.
I have created some high-quality content, the value of which many don't seem to grasp, but once-in-a-while it reaches someone who gets it, and you never know where that rapport can lead.
In any case, nothing really proprietary is just an idea, it always requires development, and that's what stops most people, so you generally only have something to gain from transparency.
Your reputation is worth its weight in Gold.

Best to you...
