Ever Had A Partner Like This?

Alright.. so me and my room mate (My partner) were going to start an IM forum from scratch without a list or advertising money.

I paid for hosting, set the forum up, configured the forum and even payed $10 for a paid posting service to get a couple members into the forum to get some posts started.

All he's done is sleep/watch movies we've seen 1,000 times and that's it.

The only thing he ever did to help was he made 2 usernames on the forums and 4 posts.

Has anyone else ever had a partner like this? Where they went on a business venture or made a partnership with their best friend/room mate and he was lazy?

I think it would be more interesting to ask if anyone has ever gone into partnership like this, on a whim, and it has not gone sour sooner rather than later.

The reality is, if finding productive people were not a challenge, we would all be millionaires right now.

I'm no IM guru or expert but I do know a little bit about basics and I know some things from what I've learned in Forums.

It's just sad to think that people are too lazy to even do work online.. I mean come on, people spend 8 hours daily or more sitting in front of their TV screens munching on Cheetos, but when it comes to working towards a goal that could possibly last their entire lives, they're just too lazy to do it.

Like he quoted "I don't want to have to work for money.. then it'll be another job"

If you consider IM a job, you're in the wrong profession anyway.. you have to love what you do or all your work will be junk. He just wants money to magically grow in his bank and not have to do anything to get it there.

I've spent a good 20 years trying to untangle the intractable aspects of humanity (mine included) and, holy crap, you cannot even begin to imagine what you find when you do this.
One of the fundamental truths is that the group of beings that we all descended from were not insatiable hunters, but placid indolent creatures that wandered down to the shore, and relying on their problem solving abilities worked out how to remove and extract shellfish and other moluscs from their shells; the plentiful protein feast allowing them to laze around while providing excellent nourishment for their engorged tool inventing brains.

Do those kind of tendencies ring a bell?

If your character is uncompromisingly entrepreneurial then statistically you are in a tiny set comprising 2.5% of he population or less.

Accept this.

Most people will never sincerely align with your view of the world.

Stop punishing yourself by trying to drag them with you and find those who are charging ahead.

Note: you will have to run to catch up with them, but that will be part of the indication that you are dealing with the real deal; they keep moving.

Friends and work don't mix.

I've witnessed best friends turn enemies because of work ethics, and most importantly money. It's always either one works harder, spends more time, and holds a grudge over the other. It almost always happens. Solid REAL Joint Ventures are rare, I've learned this the hard way on many occasions, so I guess take this as a personal lesson.

Its not ususal for someone not to be motivated. I have tried to find a partner for my forum and other online ventures but its a no good, and I'm bringing knowledge to the table as well as free hosting, advertising, etc. Oh welll more money for me, go figure

The Pro: More money for mwah.

The Con: It's a lot more work and time where I could be working on something else or getting more done.

I agree with Lazy Pig though. I can't count the number of times I have seen people turn enemies because of loaned money or just money period.

A lot of people say "money isn't everything". Well.. i'm 50/50 on this. While there are other things in life.. Money can make you either very happy or very sad.

I've loaned someone $8K last year, and she hasn't repaid
a dime up to this point, and I know she doesn't have it.

No big. She someone that is very special to me, and
the thing was I knew going in she would not be repaying
right away - even though she really did try to.

Things happen.

I have a business partner that is incredible and we
have worked together for years - and made a ton
of money together.

Two separate things - but you have to make logical,
data-driven decisions most of the time, but emotions
also play a part especially when strong emotions are
involved.

Do I regret loaning the woman money? No way.

No matter what happens I believe I did the
right thing at the right time, and regardless
I feel good about it - even if the money is
never returned it will come back in another
way.

Just my thoughts.

Sounds as if your biz partner wants to get all of the benefits but none of the grief from your business. There are sponges and parasitic organisms all over the place, and you shouldn't be in business with one. Cut your losses now while you still have your sanity.

i refuse to work with partners, because it never goes well. i've tried to do business deals with two friends and neither wanted to work. they just wanted cash for nothing.

many people are poor simply because they want gold handed to them on a silver platter. even when they know where it is, they still won't dig for it. helps to explain many things...

I ventured into something exactly like this just last year... My day job boss, who's a friend as well, wants to make money online and through other ventures so she can sell the business (day job) and retire fully... Problem is i have done all the extra work and take care of my family while she pretty much socializes and drinks almost every night... Needless to say, any money earned is on my own time now, leaving it to be my money. Probably for the best anyway!
