Ever been scammed by close ones?

How did you handle the situation and was it a close friend or a relative?

How did you manage to get your money back?

I have had experiences where in I have been scammed to the tune of $1k and in other situations $100-$200 but now I am at a stage where I just tell people that I can't lend them money even if it comes down to the relationship being broken... I don't understand how people even can have a good night's sleep when they owe someone money.

As soon as it comes to borrowing money to the family, in my opinion, you can't expect to have it fully back. That is just how it often works as per my experience, so keep that in mind before handing out the money.

About close friends, this is a different story and I think a good friend should also pay his debts. Still, this kind of things can often kill a friendship quickly.

Personally, I have borrowed some money in the past when I was a musician and I could not afford an expensive bass guitar+amp and always paid it fully back, but that is just me, everyone works differently.

I didn't got my money back but I let it pass.It wasn't worth the hassle and at the time my best buddy.
I just learned the lesson and didn't lend anyone bigger amounts of money after that.
Also there are different types of people that ask for money and you can spot if they are honest in what they say.
But at the end of the day almost all of the time.
People need money cause they don't handle their personal financials right.
So its like trusting a bad bank with your money.

Also it's not a real relationship if the relationship breaks cause you don't give them money.
You don't own nobody shit and if someone demands money from you, you better let that person go.

Very true

I think the other person tries to take advantage of the situation and your behavior...like my mom she is quiet so...my uncle owes around $10k to my mom and he gave empty promise saying he will return it within a months time(did the same with me) but he didn't do that means he isn't a man of his word. This is the guy who likes to buy expensive things knowing the fact that he doesn't have money but still show off...I bet he wouldn't have dared to come to my house asking for money if my dad had been alive...the height is when he forgets how much money I gave him lol...nd when you go hyper on them they will talk utter rubbish crap because they are senior to you...

Lesson learned, move on. Not much other choices you have left. Besides, to sue your own uncle and that would be kinda weird too, right?

He will return it's just that he will probably make it late but lesson learned and he is not a man of his word

He is perfect example of bite off more than you can chew

After my friend borrowed 14k from me *for 2 weeks* and went bankrupt with his company few months later, I no longer lend money to anyone except closest family members whom I trust 110%(parents, siblings). My 14k loan was notarized and officially I should not worry much, but it's been already 2.5 years and we're still on the same spot because there's nothing to take from a man who has no asssets under his name.

We still bump into each other on some occasions and I'm being promised that soon he will give everything back and I believe him - what's else left to do? But damage is done and lesson learned.

If there's a time someone again convinces me to lend them money I will be sure to include all their close relatives who would vouch for them to the loan contract - don't have the money yourself? Not a problem, let's take it from your grandma or momma or wife or your dog etc.

What did you mean by this:

we're still on the same spot because there's nothing to take from a man who has no asssets under his name.
 
I made near 16K EUR last year working with very close friend in one niche and later found out that he stole additional ~4K EUR, didn't fight, didn't do anything, I just walked away. Now he is making no money at all.
When It comes to lending people money, we Serbs have an anecdote - If you manage to trick me into lending you money, you don't have to give it back to me at all.

Sorry, EN is not my native language. What I've meant is that my friend atm is unemployed(official income = 0), drives a car that was registered under his wife's name and pays for everything in cash, so there is nothing for collection agency to take from him, since he has "nothing".

That's why I mentioned the need of including other people in loan contract, not just the person you lend your money to.
 
They can have good night sleep because it becomes a habit for them and thus normal as well. Happened to me for small amounts and I just said bye to money, I do not like asking again and again for small amounts.
 
Yes, I have definitely been scammed by my own father. I earned like $200 and sent it to his bank account so that he could withdraw it for me due to certain circumstances but after a few days I found out he kept making excuses and used the money for his own good in buying some smartphone. I was very pissed off as I was saving it for the future but I didn't do anything yet as I am still a teen, there is more to come once I possibly grow a bit more older.

I did not have much choice either way as a teen, maybe if I was an adult I could have filed a case :weep: but now I never send him money to his bank account, rather have my mother withdraw it than him spending it again. Never making this mistake again...

Damn but isn't that very rare cases where a father scams his child?
 
I only lend friends and family money when its amounts I can afford to lose.

I ALWAYS expect not to get that money back, and so should you. That way you won't be disappointed when it inevitably happens.

Don't get angry, but remind them the next time they ask to borrow money from you that you lent them money in the past and they haven't paid that back yet, so you can't lend them this time - sorry.
