Ever Been Hit With Ransomware?

Unfortunately I did not back up my hard drive. I should probably start doing that now that this happened. I am going to take some big precautions in the future to prevent stuff like this from happening.
I was talking to the the people in the bleepingcomputer malware forum and they said they are working on getting it updated and fixed for me. So I will wait a day or two to see what happens. If I have to wipe my hard drive then so be it.

I really want to thank you for all of your help man. Its pretty generous of you to just take time out of your day to help me out. You were much more helpful than anybody I have dealt with so far. Same with everybody else on this thread, I love this community.

Just for future
make it a habit of scanning any url before opening them from online scanners like virustotal.

I dont use antivirus myself because they usually slow down the pc.
BUT will recommend you to use a good one.

Run scans using malwarebytes anti malware (free will do) time to time. i use it too

Avoid hacked apps.

Usually the extra things that it detects are just tracking cookies and leaves behind the more important stuff.
IT has dismal ratings.

but its not going to harm the user so no issues using it.

Do not pay. And try to say goodbye to the encrypted data.
 
if you havent backed up your hard drive, there wouldnt be a solution. i had a client get infected but i couldnt get a restoration done

You could still create the service for higher end clients, where money is not an issue or the crypted files are really important, so they pay regardless, so you can price the service accordingly. Even if the victim pays the required amount to the scammers, there's only a small chance to get the files back, so they might as well pay you. :)

Yup I lost all my files and had to reinstall windows and wiped my hard drive. Got locked out of everything. Everybody needs to watch out for stuff like this :/

Sorry to hear that, this is the sort of thing I would try and stupid my way out of by doing something hopelessly futile like changing the system clock and hoping for the best.

Did you try safe mode on startup?
 
I got affected by this a month back and since I keep all my files in cloud, I just completely formatted the system and reinstalled Windows and put antivirus in place in order for it to not happen again
 
I don't trust pirated or cracked windows.
If you are going to format then you can download windows 7 legally from microsoft and use if forever by blocking updates and getting a key.
Videos are available on youtube for it.

You don't even need to block the updates, the license key is what enables them. As you said, Windows allows certified websites to upload the image file; I got mine from here for my VM and it works fine: http://pcriver.com/category/operating-systems/
 
Yep, the company where my father works got hit by Ransomware. Everything got decrypted and the stupid boss called the police, hoping that they will fix it or find out who did it. I think one of the workers opened a DHL related .doc file and BAAAM THE END.

Poor wording on my part, I just meant that if you don't enter a license key you don't get the option of updating, you'll also get the black desktop background and popups on basic programs that say 'This version of Windows is not genuine'.
 
My youngest son got a ransomware installed onmto his Galaxy Tab 4. Had a pic of him taking a,shit embedded into a legel type looking document. All I did was do a hard factory reset, he lost all his files but it went beack to default state as when he bought it at least. Wouldent let him get into any android settings it would keep popping up when we attempted to so we agreed to reset the tablet and it was good from then on
 
I got hit with one about 18 months ago, luckily I only lost some porn videos that I could redownload. For some reason it only targeted certain folders such as the downloads or documents folder. But left most of the computer alone. I had to turn off pc and use a ubuntu live usb to find and delete the ransomware so that I wouldn't have to reinstall the whole os.
