Event tickets reselling

Hello BHaters...
I have some money to invest and some idea, i'm pretty sure its not new but still works, i plan to buy event tickets like lady gaga / usher / etc two months before the event and sell them for a week before the event...
For example lady gaga Sat, Feb 19, 2011 08:00 PM 2 tickets price US $426.20, can i sell it for about 600 near to event day?
What do u think about this idea? Can i make some profit with it? Also want to know if i bought tickets under my name, can buyer go to event with ticket which have my name on it?

It is not a bad ideea and not new. What you have to keep in mind that if you buy a large lot you might run into the situation that you will not sell all the tickets until the concert day. I see a lot of people just before the concert starts that are selling the tickets at a loss just to get rid of them.

Scalping tickets is sometimes against the law in some states, but you are generally allowed to sell them online. I do this from time to time with events that children are marketed towards, like the Circus, Miley Cyrus, etc

Try Craigslist. I've been watching for a couple of weeks just for fun and tickets like Justin Beiber sell for $100+ more than face value on the last couple of days up to the event. I have even saw sex for ticket posts LOL

yeh, just check your state laws. some states have made it illegal, but a lot just have regulations. Biggest problem is depending on your area there may be some real pros for competition. I know in my area, there are always guys selling tickets for scalped prices in front of the shows.

are there any online ticket shops where you can be an affiliate ?

Three things to keep in mind (one has already been pointed out but I want to stress it as you're treading on dangerous ground Mister Spicoli):

1 - the scalping market is big - really big business - you are looking at a market that already is populated with pros who have made their living doing this a long time before the internets was more than a unix interface

2 - because of that, the ticket companies have a lot of anti-scalping/mass purchase countermeasures in place; and in fact I have this odd feeling that at least some of them are in cahoots with "preferred partners" (bigtime scalpers) to bulk sell tix to those partners and keep out the riffraff like us who might try to get a piece of that action

3 - as has been said, scalping is pretty regulated/legislated/criminalized in various jurisdictions

EDIT: oh and on your question about name matching to ticket, no generally not a problem from what I've seen, only time a person's name is tied to the ticket is if they are picking them up at the Will Call window. If you get a ticket in your hot mitts, and give it someone else, they're in like McGuin.

Something I did many years ago with Ebay, lots of money to be made then but ticket distributors have clamped down a lot as mentioned already (even ticketmaster set up their own marketplace to try and counter touts), make sure you are 100% with your decision as you may get your figures burned with a lot of tickets you cant sell or sell at a loss (worse of all are cancelled tickets!!)

In my experience, selling early as opposed to a week before gives you the same, if not in some cases more money than waiting and running the risk of losing any sale at all - buy, quick sell - rinse and repeat.... dont buy where you think, extra dates will be added to the tour as this dilutes your market.

I always used to check the tour dates when a world tour was on for a major artist, so you know if in US one day but three days later Germany, they are unlikely to add further US dates in this time but likely to add some months later which gives you opportunity to capture the market for those who want to go "now" - always buy for "big international" stars, buying local artists often leaves you with unsold tickets.

BE REALISTIC ABOUT YOUR R.O.I - SET THIS TOO HIGH AND YOU WILL LAST 5 MINUTES IN THIS MARKET - A PROFIT IS A PROFIT AND IF DONE CORRECTLY WILL SET YOU UP TO CARRY THIS ON OR OTHER VENTURES.

Oh...and dont buy for the sake of buying, think of yourself in a buyers position - would you want to see a gig from 3 miles from the stage - chances are if you get these tickets you will struggle to sell.

Try and buy early, if you get in quick enough and have sh!thot seating, buy in bulk - I used to buy rows at a time on my Credit cards if front row and make a killing but some ticket operators have limits on purchase amounts - these are the golden nuggets you want...

Good ole ticket arbitrage. Made good spending money with this during college. The only advice I can offer is make sure you do your research and start small. You do not want to be left with hundreds of dollars worth of lets say Justin Bieber tickets that you cant sell. Make sure you know how much competition you are facing. Ive seen people standing outside concert venues because they weren't able to sell online. This is where you will get rocked by the experienced scalpers.
