Event promotion (Need help)

So I am organizing an event (it is recurring and we have made a couple so far).

We do the regular stuff like flyers and posters.
Make a facebook event and invite our friends and post on FB pages that are related.
We submit to event websites (local)
I submit the listing to a few newspapers.

I am looking for ideas as to what else I could do to help get more attention to this.

Sounds like you're covering most of the main bases, appache. A fairly obvious suggestion - but if it's a recurring event with repeat & regular attendees, you should consider setting up a website with a community forum dedicated to your event(s).

I have a website I just gotta do a make over for it. As far as the forum goes, I don't think it really is at a point where that would really work as it is too small? Perhaps I still should just leave one open and see how it goes.

One of the issues is I do not have access to a lot of people I know would be interested in this.

Lets say one event that is YEARLY has lots of people that are into what we offer, however, I am not sure how to reach these said people.

I can see a lot on Fb event pages for example but I am definitely not going to be adding those people one by one...as I would get banned or it would be ridiculously long.

Maybe media press release or something? Not sure if that would work? Nor am I sure how it really even works...I herd that for radio stations that is how they ask you to submit information.
 
Depending on what this event is you might consider doing some sort of press kit. Decide on a budget and research what would best go into them for your budget and blast it out to a bunch of different places that would have some sort of market for your type of service.

This is kind of a hard question to answer without knowing the type of event. I would promote an annual music festival in a very different way than I would promote a WW2 Veteran motorcycle rally ya know?
 
We are talking about film screening events. Genre short films. So it is kinda niche esque.

I know what a press kit is, however I do not have the slightest clue as to what to do with that... :confused:
 
First we need to know the crowd-size you're bringing in, is it growing yearly? Have you tried incentives for attendees to invite everyone they know for discounts, gifts etc?

For outside-of-your-circle promotion you'll need a budget in place. I can help you get in touch with Event marketers/coordinators on a larger scale. Press releases are quite effective too. I'd need to know how serious you are about this.
 
In your case with the press kit your goal is going to be getting other people to help promote your event. So I might add some sort of incentive for them to promote your event whether that be free passes, free gifts, advertising swaps etc. Package the whole thing up into a nice package, spend a little bit of money on it and don't just send it all in an envelope, and mail it to places that would relate to what you are doing. Keep track of the places that you have sent them to via spreadsheet or something similar and keep track of which ones follow up and are interested. This will help you narrow your focus down for later promotional items.

Another good thing that could really benefit you is create a small street team. Depending on the region send them out to coffee shops, on the streets and other places where your target audience might hang out and arm them with business cards or flyers.

There are a million different things that you can do to draw attention to your event you just have to get creative about it. If you want some inspiration look at how Macklemore came up. He had some really interesting marketing strategies.
 
Hit up local forums if they exist and see if you can make a thread about it there.

Encourage attendees to share the event with others on their FB list as well. If they're passionate about the event, they'll probably do it without any incentives.
 
Well, as far as incentives we do give out films and have draws for beers, and free food.
They are fundraiser events So there is no way to predict the finances only based on the amount of people who come in.

We have switched person working the door, for someone who interacts more with the guests and had some success in raising the donation amount there.

I tried hitting up local blogs and stuff about this but have yet to get some love. I guess they do not give a shit since there is no incentive for them?

On another note, I was screen printing posters at a university yesterday, and noticed there are a lot of posters and stuff, So I think that might be somewhere that I have not thought of in the past. I mean...They have cinema classes...Why the hell not.

We had been using the same poster for a while to get the image of this poster linked to the event - You see it, you know a screening is happening. But I am not sure - I think perhaps we should go with something different.

As far as the street team goes...We tried to go that route and were really disappointed. Both for promo and website help. I guess I just have not found the right people. The events are Fundraisers, so it is not really an incentive to get someone in free if you are not EXACTLY charging right?
 
I like the poster but see no website or contact details. Although I think color would help a lot more even though it costs a bit more as that design would benefit a lot from color due to the blood effect.

I think that would help as people can take a snapshot of it with their phone and easily go to it later rather than have to go Google it. Maybe even add a QR code.

Holy shit I just realized we have been doing 8 events without writing the actual address on it. Fuck me...

As far as QR codes go - I personally do not know ANYONE who cares about those, nor have I seen anyone who took a snapshot of one with their phone.

As far as contact goes, I do not really see how that would help, but would like to hear why you are suggesting that. What would it bring?

I can't post any links here, but google these two terms: "grandstand store Event Industry Education" and "grandstand store how to start a successful event series" A little hard to navigate but there are a ton of great articles and information on there for starting events and building an audience.
 
Is there a sub-reddit for the area? That's always worth a shot.
 
Why dont you incorporate facebook ads into your strategy. If you dont know how to , you need to learn how it is being done and you will spend money during the process. When you have gotten a hang of how it works, then you can use it to promote your business. It is advisable you learn how to do it than outsourcing. It will pay you in the long run
 
Ive done many event promotions in life. If you are doing presale tickets, why dont u try buying facebook ads and sending them to a ticket purchase page?
