Estimate Amazon Salesvolume

Hey guys,

i wanna know if there is any way to estimate the sales volume for a certain product on amazon.

Of course you can kind of tell it by the amount of reviews, but some products (lets say keychains or little spare parts) dont get reviewed often.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how to do that?

Um... isn't that what Salesrank is all about?

It doesn't tell you volume, but it gives you a much better idea than the number of reviews. I used to sell books on Amazon, and you could get a feel for how quickly a book will sell (at lowest price) based on its Salesrank. Anything under 100 probably sells hundreds of copies a day, and anything under 1000 sells at least a few copies a day. I used to figure that book ranked from 1000 to 5000 would sell within a week or so, and books ranked up to 100,000 would sell within a month or two. Ranked 100K to 1 million, about a year. Anything over that wasn't worth buying. Keep in mind these were very general rules of thumb from a few years ago and may not apply as well today.

Now those numbers don't translate to other categories because (a) Amazon is known primarily for its books, and that is probably its fastest-selling category, and (b) there are 10+ million book titles but not so many items in other categories.

You can use camelcamelcamel.com to see what an item's Salesrank has been over the course of time. Seasonal items can be #1 in a category for part of the year and then #200,000 other parts. Items going out of stock, being discontinued and other factors can also affect the Salesrank.
