What Is Entity SEO?

In simple terms: instead of just optimizing for keywords, you're building a trusted "entity" in Google’s eyes. That means helping Google understand who you are, what your site is about, and how you’re connected to your niche.

How I Implemented Entity SEO on a New Site

Niche: Local service business (AC repair in the UK)
Timeline: ~8 weeks
Initial budget: Low (no backlinks, no ads)

Strategy:

  1. Create the core entity:
    • Google Business Profile
    • Social media profiles: Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube (no real followers needed)
    • Structured data schema: Organization, LocalBusiness, SameAs pointing to socials
  2. Build topical authority:
    • Wrote 10 articles across a tight cluster of related topics
    • Used long-tail keywords like: “best AC troubleshooting tips”, “signs your AC is broken”
    • Each article included brand mentions, NAP info, and internal links
  3. Boost entity signals:
    • Published PR-style posts on free high-DA platforms (e.g. Medium, Reddit)
    • Got a few brand mentions on local forums
    • Shared posts on Twitter and Facebook to generate light engagement

Results After 8 Weeks

  • Main keyword: Moved from position #98 to #9
  • 4 long-tail keywords ranking in top 5
  • No backlinks built (outside of entity mentions)
  • Google Business profile now appears in the local map pack

Why This Works (Especially in 2025)

  • Google’s algorithm now focuses heavily on context and semantic relationships, not just individual keywords
  • Building a connected brand presence sends trust signals that backlinks alone can’t
  • It’s hard for competitors to copy entity trust if they don’t build it properly from scratch

Hi,

Is this for a real business or a lead gen site? How does the GMB rank?
The article is about a business
After 8 weeks of implementing an entity SEO strategy, the Google Business Profile now appears in the local map pack. This shows that the business is ranked well enough locally to show up when people search for related services in that area.

Why does building a consistent brand presence across multiple platforms (Google Business Profile, social media, local directories) enhance visibility in search results under Google’s entity-based ranking system?

Thanks for sharing this. Few small questions?
1 Was it build on fresh domain or expired domain?
2 Is it a lead gen site or site for a local business or rank and rent?
3 After how many days you published the PR posts?

Thanks.

Thank you for writing this case study. I will implement the strategy. I've bookmarked it for future reference!

Great case study! Really impressive how you achieved such strong results without relying on backlinks — Entity SEO definitely seems like the future.

Did you implement this strategy or is it copy and pasted from somewhere?

If it was you, is it your homepage that’s ranking for your main keyword? What’s the search volume and competition for it? I don’t think it can be that high without backlinks, although I still believe in the strategy somewhat.

And about the 10 articles on closely related topics, how are they doing, how many keywords are they each ranking for on Google and how much traffic they getting?

I think strategy is good and it’s probably revolving more around those topical articles and maybe the authority from the brand links and socials you’ve built, pointing back to your site.

1. Fresh domain or expired domain?
This depends on the strategy used. Some SEOs prefer expired domains because they come with existing backlinks and authority, which can give a faster ranking boost. Others go for fresh domains for long-term stability and to avoid any baggage from past penalties. You’d want to confirm directly with whoever built the site.
2. Lead gen site, local business, or rank and rent?
  • Lead gen site is built to collect leads (usually sold to businesses).
  • Local business site represents an actual local company.
  • Rank and rent is where you build and rank the site first, then rent it out to a business (almost like digital real estate).
You’ll want to clarify the intent behind this site because the content structure and link-building tactics differ for each model.
3. PR posts publication timing?
Typically, SEOs publish press release (PR) posts anywhere between the first 30 to 90 days after launching the site, depending on how aggressive they want to be with link building. If they’re cautious, they wait until the site has some foundational content and gets indexed properly before blasting out PRs.

Why does building a consistent brand presence across multiple platforms (Google Business Profile, social media, local directories) enhance visibility in search results under Google’s entity-based ranking system?
Google is moving from purely keyword/page-based ranking to an entity-based understanding of the web. An entity in Google’s terms is essentially a clearly defined thing (like a business, person, brand, or place) that Google can recognize and verify across multiple sources.

I think each way gives different results. Thanks for your way, I will try it.

Entity SEO is an incredibly powerful SEO strategy that many people overlook, yet it can have a huge impact on search rankings, especially in competitive niches like the casino industry.

Entity SEO is an often overlooked but powerful strategy that builds a trusted brand

Very interesting and informative! Thank you for sharing this! I will keep this in mind when optimizing a new website.

Entity SEO means building a trusted online presence (an "entity") that helps Google understand your brand and niche. In a real case for a UK AC repair business, setting up profiles, using structured data, and publishing focused content boosted rankings from #98 to #9 in 8 weeks—without backlinks or ads. This works because Google now values context and trust over just keywords, making Entity SEO a powerful strategy in 2025.

Entity SEO is one of the most powerful yet underutilized SEO strategies today, and it’s gaining traction among advanced SEO practitioners.

Entity SEO boosts rankings by focusing on clearly defining and connecting topics, brands, and concepts that search engines can easily understand.
