Hi fellow BHW members,

I am looking at employing some people for my company who will typically be work at home employees.

I was wondering if anyone can suggest if there is any employee monitoring software which is like oDesk and controls:

attendance, computer monitoring for activity while the user is logged in , screenshots of the worker, etc.

I will be greatful if someone could guide me and also suggest what are the possible things to keep in mind while purchasing software like this.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers

lol ... as long as the work is being done (which can be shown by daily reports) I dont see why you want to "monitor" your people.. I do see the reason but shit who cares how long it takes to get the work done.. as long as it gets done.

I do think its funny how work at home types have allowed this type of software to get used on them.

I don't work at home so I can be monitored and timed like I was working in an office.

My clients set deadlines, I hit them, thats how it works.

Yea I know thats not very helpful but this is Black Hat World not Slave Owners World

Yeah, I too personally think there's no use to have a software like that to monitor your workers. As long as they do the work and get every single job asked DONE the way you want it to be done, then mission accomplished. The idea to ask your people to keep sending you the report by e-mail everyday is more than enough.

My 2 cents.

honestly its kinda of an old skool idea.... monitor your people to make sure they clock in the set hours...

Maybe he will be paying by the hour instead of by the tasks accomplished.

You can use teamviewer to monitor your workers, it's free. For project management, you can use free open source software that you can install on your domain or subdomain. This way you can maintain their login, password, attendance, workload, tasks, etc easily.

Here are some open source software:
Code:

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jay,

Even though I don't like the idea of monitoring my workers, your suggestion could become handy for me one day. Never heard of them before.

Hi,

i know what you mean - as soon s as you want to start employing people on an hourly basis instead on 'project' basis you kinda get the feeling that they might work only half they tell they are.

I think in this case a monitoring software might be handy - but still is not something you actually want to check ;-)

Just try to get good workers that are dedicated - then negotiate a fair low price. Fair to keep them work with ya - and low enough to not bother if they worked just 6 or 7 hours instead of 8. Then again if the Taks in a projectmanagment software like FengOffice (formly opengoo) are all done and to your satifaction - then you are on the way to go. :-)

Hope that helped.

P.S. I have tried tons of different Projectmanagement tools - infact i installed and tested probably all out there. It took me quite some time - only to figure ou that fengoffice is the best considering features and useability. Best is - the community edition si even free and instalable on your own server, which is think is a must.

No problem, just trying to help. I am sure this open source software will be useful for you someday. I maintain my daily project progress with this software also.

1. Thank you for all the responses both positive & negative ;-)
2. I agree that setting deadlines or contracting a project is a much better way to work but the fact remains when you are employing someone to work for you on an hourly basis ( which can be inevitable sometimes) requires people to be monitored and once the trust is built up ad you know that your workers are not slackers this could just be used for attendance and for workers billing you for their time.
3. I am sure within the 1st month itself a person would figure out who are the good guys and who are the slackers.
4. I may be wrong but in a scenario like in the present day where often there are people being employed over the internet I personally think this may be a good way to begin especially for mundane routine tasks .
5. I look forward to more debate and suggestions from fellow BHW members.

With best regards

In mu company we are alco using ActyMac Dutywatch software. Strong programm!

Hi, in my company we have 7 empolees in-home and only 2 in-office. And the management is easy: Basecamphq for communication and Activtrak for time control. It's cheap and works amazing.

I am working in a small company. And we are being monitored by the employee monitoring software. How can I bypass this. I don't like my monitor what I am doing online, especially when I am chatting with my friends on FaceBook. It is so annoying.

What I suggest is to have on premise remote support appliance installed such as RHUB. It is only a one-time cost and provides employee monitoring feature wherein you can remotely monitor the PC from anywhere while the computer users cannot see and delete the remote session.

If your staff use Odesk, the tool thing they install to be Odesk-ready will record screenshots and things like that automatically.

Email Odesk support and they can tell you exactly what to review.
Also make sure you read the time-log review emails for hourly jobs because if you dont, it is asumed you agree and will be billed. Its your only chance to dispute hours worked.
