When you guys use EMDs, do you think dashes or placement might affect your SEO negatively?
For example if the product was named blackhatmagic

    Blackhat-magic.com
    blackmagichat.com
    magicblackhat.com

I've seen domain rubbish like open5-xl.com (i just made that up) rank high for products, when the domain has totally nothing whatsoever to do with the content. Get something meaningful, but more so its easy for visitors to remember, and work on the relevant content.

research your niche and see whats already out there.

I don't waste a lot of time trying to get EMD's anymore. If you can get one, awesome. It also depends what you're going for..

If it's an authority site, you're much better off calling it something not more than two words, easy to spell, easy to remember, no dashes.

If you're going for the EMD for the sole purposes of getting an SEO boost for those exact keywords, it's obviously more important.

I had 2 EMD's about offering free Apple products, both were identical like 'blahblahblah.com' and the other was 'blah-blah-blah.com'
One ranked number 1 (USA, UK, NZ, AUS and a few others) and the other number 2, then the update hit and I can't seem to resuscitate either of them from the depths of Google.
