I am curious if EMD's are still working or not. Everybody is saying google crushed all EMD's from search engines. What are your thoughts about it.

thanks

Emds are still working fine. Google slightly devalued them and penalised spammy looking urls that tried to look like emds like www.emdno1.com etc.

I would always try and get an emd where available.

well, it is a fact that emd does not count that much, but if u want my opinion its not dead. (personal experience)
if u listen to M.Cuts he says you can go for kw in your domain or you can go for a brandable name (i preff brandable name personally)
but in each case, emd or not emd, if u have some nice seo on your page, i think you dont need EMD that much. if u going for a blast, well i think emd still works. (just personal experience, nothing more, nothing less)

Good luck!!!
Leobar.

I you chose EMD you should limit exact anchors.

EMD + exact didn't work for me

not sure for others, but for mine, all drop to nowhere in google, but most still ranking well and strong in bing n yahoo. So I just leave them to rot without doing anymore backlinkings.

what if i have a domain likehowtomakelaundrydetergent. i have a top tld for it and it has a pr 2. but i am not sure how to rank it...is it easy to rank such a domain with 6 articles. HQ articles.

They are still working,
I am having a Wordpress EMD site that it has no content at all beside the hello world that wordpress posts by itself and I am ranking it on page 1 position 4 just with the title and site description :D
Ok I know that the keyword that I am working is not very competitive but I am outranking some big authority sites like mp3skull, nokia ovi store and mob.org...
In few words, YES THEY STILL WORK, at least for low and mid competitive keywords :D

Depends on what is the competition on your keyword, but with 6 HQ articles I think that you can rank it pretty easy...
Just remember that you articles should target your main keyword too

EMD`s are still working great. Google just devalued spammy looking long-tail EMD`s.

Thank you everybody.....I will try to submit my feedback here on this forum as soon as i rank the domain. :)

EDM or not, what matters is your On and Off site SEO.

I'm also telling you these from years of experience..

If you are not building a real unique or mega site don't worry about brand, whichever you go, your SEO skills is what counts..

EMD do not rank themselves anymore, quality links do..

i think that the boost associated with an emd is gone. but my emds are still ranking well?

just need to build a real seo campaign where before an emd would nearly be on page one for many terms with little or no seo.

I have EMD's ranking #1 still. No problems here. Could be the backlinks though.

This is my 2 cents, and is mainly theory so don't give it too much merrit. I believe that a good part of the power of EMD (not all but a good chunk) was the fact that even if you built a backlink with no anchor text, and just as the full URL itself, it still contained the targeted keywords. I think since the hit on over optimized anchor text, this has taken some power from the EMD's.

They still are more effective than some random mix of words that are irrelevant to the topics / content / what you're trying to rank for, but there are much better ranking factors than EMD. With that said, I'm still finding it much easier to rank EMD's but this could be because the only one's I typically go after are low competition - so for me it's up in the air. Can't provide solid proof one way or the other, but that's my experience.

They still do work, if you do it in the right way.
I have around 10 EMD's doing well :)
