EMDs do work even with almost zero content

This post has inspired me to do an experiment with an EMD. Just a quick question, say the target keyphrase is 'best coffee beans' and I purchase the domain bestcoffebeans.com
And the main article I wanted to rank was titled something '10 Best Coffee Beans For The Perfect Brew," - Would you have this on the homepage and the URL just bestcoffeebeans.com? Or would post the article on a separate page and the URL something like bestcoffebeans.com/10-best-coffee-beans/

I'm assuming for the full effect of an EMD you want the content on the homepage but just checking!

I think I will use this with a few other twists I have planned for a clickbank product. I too bought into the hype and have kind of been anti-emd for a while. It seems dumb, because of course they should work. An emd will tell a search engine something. A random brand name or something will not.

How much of a role does niche competition play in this?

If the domain was dropped/auctioned or whatever, I'd consider using the same type of structure as before. Obviously checking the history before buying.

10 Best Coffee Beans For The Perfect Brew, would work fine as a homepage. The last thing you want to do is keyword cannibalization by using the best coffee beans on several pages and posts.

I think niche competition is a factor in all niches.

Ordered some content for a EMD test.. been seeing these used in all sorts of neat ways so figure it's about time.

I believe Google when they say they don't favor or add weight to EMDs, but Google still reads text to understand content, web pages and web sites and if you have a search query in your domain name and nothing else on page 1 has that exact query, then (from Googles perspective) why not toss up an EMD in the SERPs?

Also, I think CTR is a big factor here. The domain itself may not have inherent ranking weight (besides containing query keywords as mentioned above) but if users are clicking on it more than other results that's a big positive.

Personally, I feel like Google's results have been getting shittier with each update. IDK what is going on, or if they even do at this point...given how they're seeming to just default to Fortune 1000 publishers for a majority of queries now, it feels like a cop-out for not being able to accurately match pages to queries.

Seriously, even with quotes in my search parameters and refining time to recent results I still often can't find what I'm looking for, and these are consumer-related queries. I've read similar threads on Reddit of people complaining about how bad Google is these days.

Sooooooooooo if Google keeps tying themselves in knots and their results suck, I feel like the advantages of a EMD increase as if it actually DOES match the user query it's much more likely to steal clicks from the other non-relevant garbage Google has decided to rank...

OP - Thx for sharing. IMO I don't think this is the result of the EMD but the link profiles. That link profile is pretty strong! Now if that EMD had 0 links and was ranking then I would 100% agree with you! If someone can show me an EMD ranking on the first page of G with little to no links for some competitive keywords, I'll be a believer for sure! Anyone, just PM me if you have proof!

Yeah Google still gives a bonus to EMD.

But your study case is not really meaningful with such a nice backlinks profile. You can rank pretty bad content when you have such backlinks.
I've seen expired domains in the politics niche ranking incredibly on competitive gardening keywords just because the domain had powerful backlinks.

I like using premium EMD domains when I can get one because it gives more trust and it's easier to receive natural backlinks once you start ranking in Google.
I also bought an expired EMD domain (with three words) on a competitive keyword with 2K searches. It went on the first page after a few weeks. But the domain had a good history so it is hard to make conclusions based only on the EMD.
The best thing with EMD is the brand is the same as a the keyword you want to rank which makes things easier for the anchors. Naked anchors will give a boost because the keyword is already inside and can be seen by Google as a brand name.
A new EMD with no backlink will have a very little advantage nowadays but it is way less decisive than before.
It starts to look much better when you get good backlinks.

If you target 'best headphones' keyword your EMD (exact match domain) would be bestheadphones.com (could be .org. or something else, it doesn't matter), topheadphones.com would qualify as EMD as 'top' is basically the same as best.

A partial match would be reviewsofheadphones.com or headphonesreviews.com

I don't buy what Google is saying about EMD's. I believe they will always be able to rank and that any and all warnings about them is about cutting down on spam but not outing EMD's altogether. I think they've managed to scare people off but I absolutely believe EMD's will always have a chance at ranking and I'd rather go after an EMD if it's available than abandon that strategy altogether. Just my 2 cents.

We've been using EMD for our local lead gen sites and its working wonders. We don't just rely on EMD though we put quality content , proper site structures and some pbns.

We only target cities with under 70k population.

I bought some EDM, waiting for content. I hope you are right lol

Can you do so with almost no content? YES

This is just a thread making observations, please don't rush out and start bulk buying EMDs.

Yes, they give benefit in compare with other sites that has many backlinks for that query.
