No, it doesn't work. It has very little value. It might work for a very low competitive keywords.

EMDs. Exact Match Domains were once considered an effective SEO strategy, but Google's algorithm now prioritizes content quality, user experience, and backlinks.

I think it can help still. On some search results you can see EMD on top.

I believe it depends how you strategize it.
I have an old timer who's mainly PPC telling me EMD works. Dude is just cannabillizing pages in my opinion.
here's a scenario:
EMD - manhattan-plumber.com
The web pages all have the services he provides along with Meta Title tag: "manhattan plumber", H1 Manhattan Plumber, h3 Manhattan NY Plumber..
For example: manhattan-plumber/emergency-service Meta Title: emergency service call | Manhattan Plumber
For example: manhattan-plumber/repair-garbage-disposal Meta Title: garbage disposal repairman | Manhattan Plumber
Is "Manhattan Plumber" really necessary in the title tag when it is in the url already as an EMD? I think not but he & I go back and forth. I know it's not needed because I do without it on another site & service industry.

EMD technique is no longer useful. That is why you will not find EMD rankings on first page now for most of the keywords.
This
