hello,
so the emd for a keyword that i picked is taken and i am wondering what's the second best option for buying a domain name related to the keyword.. dashes between keyword, adding numbers and combining it with second keyword ?

MONEYSITE.COM

ALTERNATIVE:

moneysiteguide.com
aboutmoneysite.com
moneysiteS.com
money-site.com

In my opinion dont put dashes and use suffix prefix like hq, the, my.

Hope it helped.

Dashes are fine. Try to get the keyword toward the front of the domain.

Is the EMD gone for every extension? There is no difference between ranking a .com or a .me (unless geographically related)

Personally I have stepped away from EMD's and started to use phrase match domains instead that sound more brandable. I wouldn't be surprised to see penguin 2.0 target EMD's, Matt Cutts promised something big - that would certainly be big! Also think it is easy to tell the difference between an emd term for a general query over a branded term for a company name which also uses emd's.

I have noticed phrase match domains are a bit harder to rank and take a bit more elbow grease, but I build my sites for the future not what works right now.

Tishoy,

You can use EMD's with dashes or something synonymous. If you don't use the EMD I wouldn't worry about it too much as there is evidence that EMD's are in decline after recent updates. They remain a potent tactic for increasing ranking and traffic however not as much as they used to.

Check out this post from SEOMoz on some data they gathered about EMD's,

Good luck with your site,

It depends on it's purpose. If you're going to market it strictly online, then use example-keyword.com
If you want people to type it in manually, you need to use examplekeywordhq.com or examplekeywordonline.com
