TLD's are preferred however, if your onsite SEO & you're backlinks are top quality. It really doesnt matter.

Either one. Doesn't really matter. If you're good at SEO you'll be able to rank no matter what the domain is named.

The EMD factor is overrated and by itself won't get you much.
Therefore it really doesn't matter. I tested this recently and came up to the same conclusion several times.
You may get a better click through rate once you're on the first page.
Think how often you click on .info or *-*-* type of a domain.
Just pick a good domain name and build from there. You're gonna wanna rank more than one keyword anyway.

well i don't know if it's bad or not, but i'm starting a few directories where all the .com's were taken. so i added a word on the end. for example, just say my keyword is "new york hotels", i added online on the end and got newyorkhotelsonline.com.
that isn't my domain, but just giving an example.

I would also prefer the "add one word" thing because hyphens are too bad for type-in traffic.
