Let's say you want to build a website - not an Authority website - just an affiliate website with a few pages.

Would you go with an Exact Match domain trying to target the main keyword into the homepage, Partial match domain trying the same, to target the main keyword into the homepage, or with a Brand name domain adding pages to it?

What are your thoughts guys on this?

If the head keyword is category-defining, I would definitely go with EMD. If I don't get the COM version of the domain, I would choose any other GTLD - e.g. IO, CO etc

As an example - KeywordTool.IO outranks Google for the head category defining keyword "keyword tool"

All 3 can work but I usually try to get an EMD .com
Some people seem afraid of EMD's

imo this is not a black and white question and depends on many things; EMD at this time are not as favored by google as they used to be, especially new sites.

I would say the best is a mix, brand + PMD, like emilioseo just to give an example; this way you have brand (emilio if you can call this a brand!) + indication of what the service is (seo).

but overall as was said ^^^ all 3 work, it also depends how it sounds, how it feels, what will your customers think when they see the domain name.

1. - EMD - Benefit close to zero, chance of getting overoptimized if you are new is pretty high, also possibly abused in the past like many other EMDs.
2. - PMD - Benefit super close to zero, plus same drawbacks as EMD.
3. - Branded - No chance of screwing optimisation, most likely never used before.

This is not even close in my opinion.

I get me the niches premium expired domain I can afford and is able to read page 1 without issues and give a fuck if EMD PMD or PMS.
just has to have a nice name.

Exact Match domain (EMD) is trying to target the main keyword into the homepage.
Partial match domain (PMD) is trying the same, to target the main keyword into the homepage.
Brand for Medium and Big websites with many pages, different sections and keywords.

Partial Matched Domain is BEST. You will get benefit of Kw and Branding both :D
But if it's Small website then Go for EMD. My Suggestion!

For my personal preference, I would 100% go with EMD first, and then if it is a locally targeted keyword, I would get a country-level domain instead, if .com is not available. Based on my observation, it seems country-level domain ranks a little better when local search is performed through a local IP. Also, EMDs have a little better tolerance towards exact match keywords, as compared to none EMD domain.

IMO, Brand name + Main keyword + Home page = Best choice
