All this abbreviations freak me out!
I think I figured out, that EMD is an Exact Match Domain.
If I'm right, at least the thread's title fits my question

Is an dash separated domain name an EMD or the one without dashes?

If the dash-less name is taken on country TLD, what would be better, a name with dashes but the right country TLD (I'm from germany, so .de) or a dash-less name with .biz/.info/... ?

Go with dashes and a good suffix such as .com, .de, .net before going without dashes on a bad suffix such as .info or .biz.

It's not impossible to rank a .info, but it definitely seems to be harder.

If .de is taken then see if the .com / .net / .org is available.

Yes, first try .org and .net.

This is not ideal but you could add or switch a letter.

its also worth looking at available variations including my or the at the start

and exact match plus a couple of letters

Stop misinforming people if you don't know the facts.

OP: Do the exact opposite of what this guy says. ALL domain extensions are equal in the eyes of the search engines.

thisdomain.info is better than this-domain.net. Always go for the EMD regardless of the extension.

There is an argument that dashes are viewed by google as spaces but I honestly prefer the no dash exact match domain name

Do you have any evidence of this? although I am no expert, I am pretty sure the tld does make a difference.
