embedding copyrighted videos, a go or no go?

Content locking would be a viable solution. Essentially, the user has to fill out a survey or complete some sort of offer before they gain access to the content. It's always a good idea to actually give them the content afterward, but you don't even "have" to do that. But I would... (You get money from the content locking provider)
As for monetizing. If its "enough" traffic, adsense could provide revenue. You can always sell links and blog posts as well, if the SEO is authoritative. Sell clickbank offers, or check out commission junkie. PM me the link, I'll give you some more tips if I can see the site.

I guess the monetization part is understood, now the content is whre its at, this would be copyrighted stuff and don't want to get into trouble, can i embed videos from youtube? or maybe just put trailers up instead of whole video?

If you've got a site for a TV series ranking, there's no point..
Get a JS developer to code you something fancy (if you're getting enough traffic).
If I was you, I'd grab the series intro/theme song, embed that and let it play for 10 seconds,
then pop up a content locker to continue watching.

Embedding = publishing.
I know of a current case where a guy was just sued for publishing (embedding) copyrighted clips. No idea what is going on with that case at the moment, but if you don't have the finances and legal firepower needed to defend yourself, I wouldn't risk it. Your call, of course.
