Email Scrapping Questions

How does email scrapping works exactly? I know you get a software like Scrapebox or GSA Email Extractor or make and run it, preferably on a vps. But how do you deal with honeypots? I heard of people offering honeypot lists/services for a fee. Is this necessary? And let's just say I did send an email to honeypot email, what is the worse thing that could happen? I would like to hear some insights in this matter....
