Hello Masters,

Quick question to any of you running ZIP/Email submits for Email lists only: What do the networks look as a referer??

hmmm...that I know but Thks!

What I meant is, what is acceptable for them to see as the referer

There's no list of "acceptable" referrers. Networks know it can be blanked out, cloaked, or modified very easily. The bottom line will be the quality of your traffic.

Cool, I was on the fence about cloaking but I guess I will just do that

Cheers All

They see the referrer data. If the submit is allowing Search, Web Placement, and Email then you are not really going to have a problem. Watch though, because sometimes they state "No Freebie Sites" which constitutes sites such as Yahoo Answers, Myspace etc... They just dont want any complaints. Masking the referrer works here (somewhat blackhat considered) or driving to a landing page link to a php redirect for your offer.

Some networks such as Hydra, Neverblue, Azoogle, Maxbounty, Advaliant etc with their own proprietary tracking platforms can see more such as web browsers used and other unseen things that only they know about.

If you are worried about advertising on other sites then just be straight with em. I do Media Buys for myself, my company and clients across multiple networks and sometimes I may get asked why I am getting so much referrer data from a specific forum. When this is happening it's usually from a banner ad linking directly or I've negotiated a Forum blast to the webmaster's members. No biggie, just have to keep them informed.

Any details you might provide? It's a blackhat forum here and I am mostly covering whitehat shit so I dont know if this will be any help to ya.

Edit - Saw the replies after posting:

Cloaking -->Should be called masking :)

Networks refer to cloaking as masking. As long as shit runs smoothly there is nothing wrong with cloaking at all. It's encouraged.

Well, the issue is that the offer is supposed to be email only, and the offer is a exclusive $2 per lead email submit, I was wondering if I run ppc to it, what would they see. Also, if emailing to an email list, if users click straight to the "un"cloaked link, what referer info will they see

Thks for the great input

Well,

Here is a response at which I am torn to say. As a network owner, I wont and dont encourage any activity that constitutes a publisher breaking the terms of an advertiser.

I would be a total hypocrite if I did not offer a blackhat response that says if you were thinking about doing something like that, I would mask clear from the beginning man. Mask the PPC And Email all at once. This gives you leverage. If you dont mask the email links then they will see straight referrer. If you DO mask and are running two sources then if you have a problem and a manager comes at you, you have masked the link from the beginning and now you just go to your Autoresponder or Data Management system and mail them a screen shot of what you have mailed.

Edit - Iso, a good way to get around this as well and boost your own backend is to create a landing page for PPC and have people opt in for something. You can then redirect thru an Autoresponder after the person optins in. I like double optin for my important lists but I do use my own Data Management that only requires one optin to mail for these very reasons. If they say email only, the whitehat way is to have people optin for something (Not incentive) and then straight redirect the autoresponder thru a soft php redirect on your server.

Get Creative:)

Awesome CPAMaster, thks for the input

Interesting question,

for your problem, definately run it through a cloaker cause the ppc campaign withotu any cloaking would show (adwords) google.com + keywords etc as referrer.

An email client would give you a blank referrer (application based), but I have no idea about the webbased. I assume they will send the mail.google.com as sth but I am not sure.

Yea I have heard gmail will send a blank instead, but you never know nowadays what people are using, that was what I was after.

Cloaking will most defintiely take care of the issue Iguess

Most CPA Networks ask you to not use their direct link but to redirect through a redirector or a custom script ( like we wrote), cloaking also works well.

BTW Do you have some samples of landing pages you have designed? I am looking to have more made

x2

always use a redirect :)
it also helps you if your doign email marketing since most if not all the CPA's linsk are listed or you will cause them to be listed, rotation is the key :)

well here at blackhatworld we call it cloaking lol
