Hi,

I am looking to create conversation for some new email marketing strats in the financial consulting area.

I recently got hired as the marketer for a HF. My biggest task was to grow the email list from roughly 300 to 1000. Of real legit prospects.

I have ran lead gen ads, offered a free pdf download in return for an email and that's all good and all. Facebook ads just take the companies money with the new update and he wants to target locally which I think FB ads are not the way to go for local. But I don't think by doing those strats makes a prospect legit. Marketing in financial consulting in my opinion, is more geared toward marketing the person who will be in charge of your retirement or your roth and so on.

But the boss isn't interested in making videos, he has been more focused on seo over the past couple years to my knowledge. I think building the trust through online content is more beneficial than offering pdfs. I feel like that's because I'm much younger than others I speak to at the office. What do you guys think? Do I have the wrong thought process here? Is there anyone that is or was in a similar position?

I am not looking to buy email lists since that defeats the purpose of legit prospects.

Please share any thoughts bc like I said Id like to create conversation. I hope this thread will offer help to others than just myself.

Your best bet would be to look for questions people ask about your niche.

Filter these questions using paid SEO tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs in terms of difficulty.

The next stage is to filter these keywords in terms of monthly search volume.

At the end of the process, you should have a list of keywords that are in your niche, are easier to rank, and have some search volume.

You should then create optimized content targeting these keywords.

The main point to keep in mind is that whatever content you produce must deliver on the search behind these keywords.

The people who are searching for those keywords on Google expect a certain result.

Deliver that result.

Once you start ranking for all these informative articles, you can then internally link them to each other and also put a call to action within the text of these pages, getting them excited about your free pdf.

The key is to make sure that your free pdf acts as some sort of content "extension" of your pages.

This is how you build trust over time.

This is how you get people to join your mailing list.

You must demonstrate to them that you know what you're talking about.

And oftentimes, they do this very quickly and they just skim through your content.

If they find something that they know is absolute BS, they would bounce out.

Or if your content is not very engaging, they would leave immediately.

But after a few seconds, if you get their trust and it's obvious that you are credible, it doesn't take much for them to click an internal link to go to get closer and closer to your free pdf offer.

Regardless of what you do, make sure that you're clear that there is value in being a member of your newsletter.

Sadly, so many marketers sell the pdf or digital freebie that they are offering but fail to convince the new list member to stick around.

No wonder, their mailing lists fail.
