email marketin question

High I don't have deep understanding about email marketing.So this questions may sound easy
1 As a branding specialist I am not going to send imediately sales letter,or something like that.So is it normal to send useful material once in a month?should it be in follow-up or newsletter?
2 Is it normal to include sales offer in email?or should it redirect to my sales page?

1) To scrape your email there are different ways to do that. You can set a newsletter feature on your website to collect email addresses of your customers. Or else you can buy contact list from the internet.
