Im currently doing a project that is going to require a website at some point, now i was planning to buy a domain and hosting when i was ready to monetize what im doing but now im considering setting up the site now and just putting an opt-in email sign up on there. Now i have never made an email list so im not really sure if its something worth doing which is why im making this thread. Should i do what i mentioned or is that a waste of money?

Thanks

That sounds like you have a niche there so I say that you should go for building a list. Even if you do not monetize it yet, having a focused subscribers (clients) list will come in handy later on. Moreover, it looks like you'd be getting your traffic from an offline service/product which means that you get the leads for free (not considering the actual costs for the sale).

LE: Setting up a website and buying a shared hosting will not set you off more than 50-100 USD for the first year.

Setting up a website can actually be a lot cheaper..look for a nice day when godaddy has $3 .com domain, but one.
Then go to any of the low-cost hosting/free hosting who cost like $10-25 per year. Install wordpress and you're done.
Of course you need to be a programmer, or good googler to set up landing pages, etc.

Do a search for email marketing on here. One thread is entitled Email Marketing 40K a month strategy or similar and should show you exactly how powerful and worthwile collecting an email list can be

Think ill give it ago then.

I think it will be better if you try to use aweber to send your email campaigns.
