There's an old aged riddle of Einstein's .. most of us heard of it. What bugs me is wheather this riddle can be solved mentally by people and if so, what percentage .. ?!

So if it's been more than 1year since you completed this riddle, you are free to try to Solve It Mentally. And I Mean Mentally Only as on paper even a 9 year old can do it.

If you haven't tried this at all, you are free as well... hehehehe

So here's the riddle
Five people of different nationality live in a row of five houses of different color. Each person prefers a different beverage, smokes a different brand of cigar and keeps a different kind of animal. Can you figure out who owns the fish?

- The Brit lives in the Red house.
- The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
- The Dane drinks tea.
- The Green house is on the left of the White house.
- The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
- The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
- The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
- The man living in the center house drinks milk.
- The Norwegian lives in the first house.
- The man who smokes Blends lives next to the man who keeps cats.
- The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
- The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
- The German smokes Prince.
- The Norwegian lives next to the Blue house.
- The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

Who owns the fish?

Note: if you have solved the riddle, please don't post your answer, as people can google it if they want to know it. Else it will influence the people's rationality of solving the riddle.

We had to solve this in our first week at uni, except we had to do it in groups of 5, each person was told 2-3 facts and we weren't allowed to write anything down. Mindfuck.

I'm not even going to attempt, way too much for my brain to process.
That being said, I'm suprised someone who uses weather instead of whether, can do it mentally.

mentally, no way, but I used to do sooo many of these kinds of riddles when i was younger. My aunt loves these riddles too, has a whole book of them.

It's awesome getting stuck and re-reading the clues over and over until you're so frustrated you almost quit, but then read the clues once again and this time pick up on the one small turn of phrase that gives you the spot on the table you need.

fun fun!

looks like you'r having a bad day. either that or you'r just having serotonin issues all the time ... (in which case you might want to check for obsessive compulsive disorder with a mental practitioner)

either way, please avoid this thread next time you feel like flaming people for missing a letter. it's rude and not so smart .. thank you

haha, maybe you can share some of them with us some time i know i'd love it if you would

well mentally, is a statistical improbability. Einstien himself claimed that 98% of people couldnt solve it at all, let alone without paper. On paper it was easy as pie, mentally would require a flash memory of sorts. cool share tho

I'm not having a bad day, and I wasn't even rude about it. You didn't miss a letter, you used the completely wrong word.
I just wanted to note, next thyme you try to show off how smart you are, don't spell basic words incorrectly... people will find it hard to believe you.

well, yep .. sounds hard when you 1st think about it. i know it did for me as well .... but then i realized that this riddle was made by einstein in the 1800's so it must be more easy nowadays tho. than i did some more research and found out that the mean IQ increases in the population with 3 point per 1 decade.

so you see since 1800's the mean IQ has improved with about 60 points ... so it should be easier for people nowadays to do this. maybe not in few minutes, but in 1 hour for sure.

which is why i proposed this poll, to bust the myth of 98% ... this would be a good one for Myth Busters Show=))
i'd say that at least 50% should be able to do it if they have the desire to do it.

having people believe me WHETHER i'm smart or not, is the last problem on my mind.

1st problem that comes into my mind is how stressed people are when a misspelling is an issue for them, 2nd is how they lack basic neurons in their brains to compare misspelling with completing a riddle and most of all making random conclusions based on just that wow .. that's actually hilarious.

if you'r born in usa/uk .. guess what my frined i'm not from either of those countries, smarty. oh, and guess what ... no one gives a shit on what you consider smart. so, move on ..

just in case you do have some neurons, a brain can have a better visual memory than a verbal memory. that's why my friend you will never be as good as einstein. cause he had an excelent visual memory, and guess what, einstein wasn't much of a verbal person either =))

that should get you started on your journey to wiki. good luck

p.s .. i didn't get that word wrong because i didn't knew the difference between words. it just happened to miss type it wrong. bad luck, what can i say .. =))

I disagree, or you wouldn't have typed all that out trying to look smart.

I find it rather ironic that OP shares a brain teaser on Einstein...who failed his college entrance exam, with one main reason being language, only to be flamed for misusing a homophone.

There are many different types of intelligence which factor into one's intelligence quotient. Reasoning is the only one needed for this teaser to be solved.

Maybe English isn't OP's first language. Language has nothing to do with whether someone is intelligent or not. While English speakers may find me intelligent, I'm pretty sure my broken German would have me looking like a moron, if I were to go to Berlin. Writing skills have never been a factor in any professionally proctored IQ test that has been administered to me to date. Just sayin'.

actually i've typed all that to make you small, specifically for the flaming on that ridiculous word =))
in other words, to show you that the problem is on your part.

the only one here that wanted to show off was you for flaming me for nothing, really
