I've recently built an ecommerce site which I would like to promote.

I've heard about link building and I'm unsure of wbere to start. I've signed up to two-three forums which have content related to my site and made posts with my site url as my signature.

I have a few questions about it though and I'd really love to have your opinions on it -

    1) How many links is too little and how many links to your site are too much? Is there a certain point where Google may think you're carrying out mindless spam?

    2) If for example you have your link in your signature, does it count as link when someone clicks on it or can it be a link as soon as you post it? Also if you have 8-10 links posted on one page on a forum does that count as 8-10 links or does it count as a link on one page? (may sound like a stupid question, i apologise)

    3) How do you track how many links coming into your site?

    4) When SEO specialists say 'build links to your site' does the link have to be your url homepage or any other page on your site?

And finally.... How can I efficiently build links and how long do you think it usually may take? Months, years?

    Thanks in advance peeps
