In my opinion I think it's a good thing,

It has narrowed down the search results so has reduced traffic by removing some of the long tail hits. You would think this would be bad, and I did initially, but I looked at all the information available.

The drop in long tail hits has only removed the chance, and probably unrelated traffic. This means that the hits I am getting are targeted specifically to my sites content. This has materialised in higher retention figures and higher revenue, lower bounce rate which all would suggest an increase in quality. (Which after all is more important than quantity)
