Effectivie link wheels

One of the best ways to increase page rank and move your website up the search engine rankings is to create a link wheel. A link wheel is a set of Web 2.0 blogs and sites that link to each other and also to your main website. Your main website will act as the hub of this wheel with all of the web 2.0 blogs linking to it, sort of like spokes on a wheel.

How do you create your linkwheels? do you maybe have a image?
Because everybody says normal linkwheels are detected by google, how to avoid this footprint?

Make an open link wheel and add more spokes to it so then its harder to find the footprint

The whole link wheel concept is useless nowadays, I don't ever believe it was THAT effective, essentially you were piggy backing off each of your properties to 'power' the next one in the list. It helped with indexing but that was about it.

Unless your building links to your links, web 2.0's are more or less useless, that is why the 'pyramid' approach works better, since your building links to web 2.0 properties which then in turn link to your site.

I'm an advocate for the pyramid link structure as well.

Admittedly I thought a link-wheel was just another way to describe the link pyramid (my geometry teacher would roll in his grave if he read that).
