With the recent change in Google's Algorithm, does anyone have any idea on which link types are still effective?

For example ive been told that xrumer and Autoplig links are no longer very effective.
Wordpress links still seem to be pretty effective.

Anyone care to confirm or deny any of the above and expand on what is currently working for you?

Angela's backlink service is BS - it saturates great backlink sites and causes the moderators close to them down, while angela gets fat off the profits :) sorry if anyone disagrees but that is my opinion, take it or leave it.

However, Angela's type of backlinks are very powerful. You want PR 4,5,6,7 and ********. I have been able to find an infinite supply of sites like these without the help of this Angela.

There is a strong argument in the IM community which states that backlinks are more powerful if they are on-topic, although evidence for this is not forthcoming.

However, beware - if you plug too many of these powerful backlinks into a new site, big G will slap you into the sandbox, and you may never emerge.

I am not sure if this is ture of not but i read somewhere that the new algorith will focus more on brand names and stuff. I can't remember clearly what the post said but i am definitely sure it was something about branding and stuff.

If you're less than 6 months old, then google will be sensitive to powerful backlinks, and if you add too many, they may trip the spam algorithm. Nobody knows what the golden number is. Some will say that it doesn't even exist. I would say don't add more than 1 PR 5 backlink per page per day.

If google really cared about spamming, artificial link building etc. they would just disregard blog comments. It's a perfect example of people trying to push their own sites. Escpecially if it's ********. What kind of an idiot puts an url other than their own in the url box? Noone, that's who. After all these years, they are either really dumb or really smart. So you shouldn't really worry about (in)effective backlinks.
Oh what about those paid links, yeah, they really fixed that up as well.

Doesn't relevance have a role to play? You can't plug your viagra site with links from high PR Lamafarming sites can you?

Well, what tends to happen is this - You start a new site, and in the first 12 - 16 weeks, you pile on the backlinks. Then, it starts to work just like your SEO guru said it would. You find yourself on page 1 or even at the top spot in google. The money starts rolling. You may be tempted to breathe a sigh of relief at this point - don't.

This phenomena is known as the "fresh boost". Sometimes it lasts 2 weeks. For me, last time, it was 2 days. Then, bam, you're out. Nowhere to be found in the serps - but still indexed. You are in the sandbox! You may be out in a month. You may be out in 6 months. Or you may never come out. There is no way of knowing.

Of course, some people do not meet this barrier and they claim that it does not exist. However, I have made a lot of websites and they have all suffered from the fresh boost / sandbox effect.

I am currently testing backlink strategies to find out if there is a way to avoid being sandboxed - check out the thread:

They used to say, if it's high PR the relevance doesn't matter, if it's relevant, even the links from crappy pages give you something. This might be old news with this "new algorithm change" though :) Just check the viagra backlinks and get your links on those sites. Those guys (and dolls) have it all figured out.

That's a more positive spin on what I have been told by some - that is, the links must be relevant, and if not, not only are they worthless, but big G will become suspicious and you could face a penalty.

But nobody really knows. This is all I am sure of:

If you build up too fast, you get slapped. The simple fact is, unless you are lucky or know something I don't (if so PM!), it takes about 4 months to secure a solid page 1 ranking in Google.
