Effect of Server Location for PBN?

For any experts out there..
Does PBN server location have any effect on getting better results/rankings? For example, clients are targeting rankings in .com.au -- is a PBN more powerful if all of the sites are hosted within Australia even if the old domains purchased was not originally from Australia?

Hi,

As far as I know server location doesn't really matter directly. What matters is load time. Most of the time a server in Australia will respond more quickly than a server in say, Norway. That's how server location *does* matter. It's not the actual location, it's the response time as far as I know. Also, as far as the PBN goes, having domains from the market you're targeting will help. If you are targeting .com.au then having .com.au domains linking to you will do you a huge favour.

On a side note, are you actually setting up a PBN targeting .com.au? Or is that just an example?

Then Private network as above same country as target site = better results.
PS: if france content in com tld in france (better) or usa ip target france site GOOD
If France content in fr tld in us ip target france site Better

I'm actually going to set up a PBN in the near future. From what I've seen, my current supplier use old .com domains (low-medium DA) and just stuffing non-relevant articles in those domains-- although, they transfer all the hosting to be within Australia. And it does deliver okayish results for clients.

Most regular australian websites are hosted by US companies anyway i.e. hostgator/bluehost/etc

I don't know how effective it would be, but it seems to me that you could use Cloudflare to have the server kinda in Australia...

hmm, Cloudflare might be worth a try. I'll keep digging around the data from competitors' backlink and see if they all use Australian hosting.

Should be a really interesting find.

I don't think hosting location would matter. You can use a CDN, too, to speed up local page loads.

Server location is less effect of ranking, but it's worth to do.

If you have the budget you can deploy servers that are clones of each other on 3 continents and use Geo based DNS routing. Works like a treat! Bit of a setup, but if you know your Linux it's not too bad. And once it runs, it keeps on running and cloning automatically.

Local servers together with local tlds may give a slight boost to your rankings but they arent entirely necessary.
