EDUs penalties?

Hi there everyone!

Usually Google penalizes very fast linkbuilding, like from a scrapebox blast.
Someone told me that .edu domains can not be penalized by Google and this makes sense, but what about the reverse - I see many offers here in the forum for .Edu blasts - 20,50,100 backlinks. Won't this affect the SERP in negative direction? I mean, it is linkbuilding again, so if I get 100 .edu backlinks and ping them for immediate indexing what would be the result - SERP up or SERP down with penalty ?

By following a simple logic for the inviolability of the .edu domains, 100 instant backlinks should really fast improve my SERP. But will it do?

Please forgive the potentially patronizing tone of my following post. I am genuinely trying to help you.

Your post illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of SEO.

You're looking at something like a "edu blast" as a stand alone service. You mustn't look at it like this. You should research up on the topic of "link profile".

Your "google dance" will depend on the total sum of links pointing to your site, and the various metrics they each represent. In other words, if this "edu blast" is your first bit of link building - then it might dance down. If it is part of a number of varying links that have been built in total, you'll find it'll probably "dance up".

Until shown with something of a objective test (I am not aware of anyone publishing the results of one to the IM community) of this - I would assume edu domains would be based on similar rules as the rest of the domains - again this is speculation on my part - but better to assume something closer to norm than assume something as categorical as the above.

This is again a speculative opinion based entirely on your subjective situation. Depending on the scope and variety of your link profile you may be able to perform link building at any speed, building any type of links without penalty.

Read up on "link profile"
Build a "link building plan"
Execute plan
wait for a week or so
check rankings
review indexed link profile
redesign "link building plan"
execute
etc until rank is achieved.

I'm talking about this like a stand-alone, 'cause I'm talking for an old domain which is google trusted and I don't know if 100 or 200 links sent for a day will pull the site down or will push it up. That's why I'm asking.
And my point was - which is better - 100 links a day, or 10 links per day for 10 days.

I reiterate, It depends on the link profile of the site. If it's strong and varied, 200 links is nothing.

If it's fresh, 200 links might make it "dance" down, but it'll eventually, probably, come back up above where it was. This is known as a "google dance".

You've got to remember, the actual backlinks take time to be indexed, so it might take 2 weeks for google to "see" all your newly created links. In many cases longer depending on the nature of the link sources.

If in doubt, slower and steadier is better.

Does that look natural to you?

If you have to ask the question on whether it appears wrong then you can pretty much bet IT IS wrong.

@elvis1973 , yes that's exactly I am doing But I have very few (about 30) sources for backlinks, so I've done it for 3 days with 10-13 links per day. Most of the blogs are discontinued so I doubt that Google crawls them in every 5 minutes, so it will take time before G catches them I bet that it will work like a charm

you should do all kinds of backlinks, link diversity is crucial! I do pretty much all the backlinks types that are out there, and never been sandboxed or lost rank

Yeah I bought a 50-edu package on Fiverr that was super high rated just to test and my page 1 site dropped to page 5 and now nowhere in the top 10 after 2 weeks. Pretty much knew it was going to happen but couldn't resist testing it out...I now better understand the utter importance of link diversity

Don't go by the "someone told me", but it's ok to keep it in mind. More importantly, Google will change very often, so just think white hat. Make your site appear as white hat as possible, as said... link diversity, etc. However, an aged domain will almost always help you.

My main intention was to make it appear as legit as possible, just like someone is really doing a white hat linkbuilding. Even I'm doing the comments by myself - no software, no shits included.
So now, after 30 .edu backlinks I'll just do few times more other links and everything should be fine. Diversity will be achieved.
