ScrapeBox? I think pages where you can get .edu backlinks are mostly comments on blogs that get spammed so much that they're sooner or later taken down. It might help your site in the very short term, but you never know when you'll lose a good deal of your links. I'm no expert by any means but I believe it's just one of the many areas that you should backlink with. You're not going to get a great boost from 5 or 10 edu links imo, you're going to have to blast the crap out of social networking sites, edu sites, on and on, then keep it up if your site isn't able to get substantial rankings on its own.

5 - 10 quality edu links can make a tremendious difference. It depends on your KW.
That said, i've read somewhere that google intend to review the value of an edu link, which stilll has to be confirmed as there were no public release from it.
The key remains link diversity. Shitty links, quality links, web 2.0, social bookmarking, wiki links, articles links, forum links, contextual and so on.
What is working great these days are blogs network.

I can find like 30-40 an hour in just google, I also have scrapebox but its works better in google search
