depending on what do you want to use it for, it can be pretty much useless to get one, nevertheless you can get one on 2 or 3 sites i know of, one of them is californiacolleges.edu, but if you want to use the address to be able to leverage a student discount somewhere, there's a 99% chance that it won't work, that's exactly because anybody can get one and the sites which offer the discounts are aware
if you want to use it for other than discounts purposes, then i guess, enjoy

Alternatively find a list of .edu domains that you know have emails and figure out how they map students names to email addresses and then try to spam all possible combinations of .edu email addresses with an offer to buy the account.
All you need is one person to day yes. Alternatively find universites in area and be that shady guy hitting up students to buy their email address.

You can find providers on fiverr, you can get a EDU email working for discounts for 5$

IIRC, @krishnaverma was selling at least a few at one point.
IDK if they necessarily have prestige associated with them (although they sort of do), but they definitely have uses. Look fairly trustworthy and you can get large discounts on various tools and pieces of software (sometimes free things).

No offence intended to all the great minds over here but the domain the Fiverr seller is giving you to is blacklisted and you can get any stuff for free
