Hello awesome blackhatters! Just a question to ask. I am currently ranking on the 1st position for my homepage article. I need to do some editing for my homepage content. Will it affect the ranking if i were to edit it?

It certainly could do. Depending on how much of it you're going to change.

If it's just a few alterations and it improves the article I would go for it. I've learnt not to let the fear of Google paralyzed me into taking no action. They may change your rankings tomorrow anyhow.

Unfortunately, there's no way to tell how it will effect you until its done.

If you're adjusting the title/meta -- definitely.

If you're adding fresh content to the homepage, try to keep the same keyword density %. There's nothing wrong with adding fresh content to your site, but be careful not to throw off your densities.
Make sure your H-tag structure remain intact, do not confuse Google's algorithm.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I've decided to go ahead do some minor changes by adding more value to the content. Keyword densities will not be affected though. Thank you so much! :D

okay guys since this thread is up already, please i would like to know, if i add more content to my already indexed homepage content will it help in improving my ranking whenever google crawls the page again or is the improvement user based only?

It may or may not help. If it increases your keyword density, this could actually harm your page as the search engines may interpret it as spam. If your visitors find the new content helpful (and you believe this new content is helpful), then it will improve your user experience and possibly even page views.

Yeah it will affect the rankings.
First of all you conform, what are the changes you have to done.
From that "you can cross check with the SERP Results"
For eg., Wheather if the content is ranked in Google SERP [Meta Description] then it will affect the ranking.

It definitely can affect your ranking, if you have changed your article maximum numbers in word count.

yes it will. but in my experience onsite changes are quick to have an effect (once google recaches the changes).
Heres an example. This page had only a partial keyword in its H1. i altered one word of the h1 text and this is the result (over optimisation i guess). Similar effects with just changing kw density of body text.
Try it and keep an eye on serps and when google picks up the changes - and make sure you can revert the changes if it goes wrong and you should be fine.
