To all you E commerce site gurus. Im building a blog on my ecommece site is it better to build it as a subdomain like this blog.ecommercesite.com or a sub directory such as ecommercesite.com/blog
Makes no difference - putting it in a subfolder generally makes more sense unless you are physically hosting the blog on a different server (in which case a CNAME/A sub-domain is preferred).
