Hi Guys,

I have an e-commerce site running since feb, I have 16k email list that I have built up, however I have never actually sent any mass emails except once right at the start.

I do have emails sent out automatically to recover basket abandoners after 20 mins, 2 days, 2 weeks. But never used my 16k email list to send out a promotion.

I have it linked up with Mailchimp, however it is very expensive and that is what has put me off sending bulk promotional emails.

So guys who are in similar situation to me, and use email campaigns for your e-commerce site:
- How well does email promotions actual work to your email list
- Is mail chimp costs worth it, is there an alternative?
- What promotions have worked best for you? BoGoF? Discount Code? New Arrivals etc?
- Any other tips/advice

Much appreciated!

- How well does email promotions actual work to your email list

This depends on what type of store that you're running. If it's a unique niche store, email promotions can be extremely effective. If you haven't run any email campaigns in a while, I would start out with a promotional offer and monitor the email open rates. Take the ones that open your promotional emails and segmented them into a another email list the ones that never open your emails. Take note that I would only delete the email subscribers that have not opened the first 3 to 4 promotional emails.

There are always alternatives. If you're looking to promote via email long-term I highly recommend setting up your own email software on your server. I use Interspire email marketer as my own personal email autoresponder and have saved a ton of money using it.

Monitor to see which ones warrant it the highest click through rate. Only thorough testing will give you a legit answer on this one.
