I'm in the process of launching an ebook and don't know whether it would be best as a pdf or a .exe file.

If you use a .exe file, why not put an extra Trojan in there while you're at it? The last thing I like to do is click an .exe file from an unknown source.

I favor a pdf too but the content is easily duped - whereas an .exe file's content isn't

It's true that an .exe raises suspicions but they don't know what they're getting until they've bought it.

I think .pdf would be best. I'm used to buying ebooks in .pdf format and there are ways to protect your content. Yes it can be copied, but .exe would raise suspicion and I'm sure some people would be upset if they bought an ebook only to find out it was .exe instead of a format they were expecting.

PDF without a doubt. Not everyone uses Windows. PDF is the standard for an ebook and it's easy for people to convert to other formats if they want to read it on their Kindle etc.
