Ebola Outbreak: What do you guys think?

We've been researching Ebola for 4 decades now and know it does not spread through air. We also know this outbreak was far LESS aggressive than outbreaks we've seen in the past (fact). That guy is saying it was more "aggressive" which tells me he has no idea wtf he's talking about. It's infected like 2 people outside of Africa lol. In the past it got out and infected thousands outside of Africa. It's on such a small scale and is as much a joke to worry about as that article is.
Can it be spread through Aerosols? Yes. But aerosols are not in fact "air". Scientifically speaking, they are >> liquid suspended in air. They also sink to the ground so fast you'd have to cough directly into someones mouth to infect them.
Even if someone set off a massive Ebola Aerosol bomb, it would be the most ineffective way to spread the virus. It would need to be pressured by air, not explosives (fire would kill the virus) and because of this it would have very low energy and impact. Just to infect a small town, you'd need a pressurized tank about 10xs bigger than gas rigs you see traveling down the road. Not to mention how impossible it would be to build a bomb that big and culture that much Ebola w/out killing yourself in the first place.
I'll debate this all day long and even put $$$ on it, Ebola isn't going anywhere. It's ability to spread through air is like a fishes ability to walk on land.

The chances of you falling off a ladder and dying (in the UK) are far greater than you contracting Ebola.
Most people worry about death by means that are so statistically unlikely and yet smoke 20 cigarettes and drink ten pints a day.
If you go back to the 1st World Trade Center bombing in '93 and start counting American lives lost to terrorism from that point, you would have 200 different things that have killed more people, including fatalities that occur when cars hit deer.
The press do not actually do anyone any favours when they hype this sort of story up. It is sad how they actually seem to get happy, it is as if they are hoping more people die.

That's a great point. I've never thought about viruses that way but you're right. AFAIK none of them have cures. Just vaccines and your own antibodies.

IMO, ebola should be taken much more serious than it is from the US administration. All flights from Africa should be stopped yesterday. It takes 21 days for the virus to even show symptoms, so the 2 cases here in the US could have caused hundreds already. All I can say is I am glad I live in a very rural area... Close the borders too

But seriously, I found a new, WAYYYY better article on this recent outbreak. Apparently I was wrong. In this year alone 3091 people have died from Ebola. If you look at the death graph on the site since 1976... it's pretty damn freaky.
At the same time, the graph on the bottom clearly shows that HIV/AIDS is the most dangerous virus in the world. And that Ebola is basically one of the least lethal diseases. The problem is, the article goes on to make some very interesting and rather frightening projections. Worst case scenario, they say 700,000 people might die by Jan 2015.
And if that happens, Ebola is going to rise up the charts very fast becoming the worlds 3rd most dangerous disease/virus.
This is however, "worst case scenario".

Here's a good doc Vice just did on Ebola. Pretty crazy shit. Everytime someone gets sick the hospitals, doctors, ambulance NOONE wants to go near them. Can't really blame them either.

First of all, be thankful that living in US means that you will have superior healthcare than most of the world. These virus could be everywhere in the world, went undetected and unsolved, being thought just as another "virus".
No, I don't think it would be pandemic in US. Yes, some people may get infected, but hygiene level in most cities in US are good that the disease can't transmit as fast as it does in Africa. Not to mention that US citizens know the basic of disease controls such as wash your hand before eating, take a bath every day, don't eat from the same plate as the sick person, etc. Ebola is not airborne, so the risk of contracting it is quite low for an average person.
The nature of disease can't be predicted. People may get Ebola before they get fever, we can't check everybody. What we should be doing is close (temporarily) all flights to affected areas, but let other African-bound flights continue. That should put some curtail on the disease. And make sure that the hospital quarantining these persons do their job properly. I remember that some people who are quarantined in Africa do broke out from their hospital thinking that Ebola disease are injected by the Western doctors.....
