Domain names are as valuable as Land is in the offline world - heck, it's pretty much the same thing. We have all heard about the sale of sex.com etc so domaining is becoming more and more mainstream.
I think it's all about being in the right place at the right time and being willing to sit on a domain purchase for decades if needed.

Stoners have some weird ideas when they are spangled, but blowing $200K on that domain is right up there with the daftest of them.

It wasn't $200k cash, was $50k cash + "$150k" in stock in a weed company. Pretty good deal for the buyers at $50k down, the stock likely has little/no liquid resale value. I would imagine ebola will die down as a trend within a year, but for now their could be cash to be made.
