ebay vs amazon

can someone break it down for me

which one charges to list your item the first time. and which one charges if you have to relist it?

well with ebay it's easier to get them to give you a free listing by just saying you never sold the item even if you did i do it all the time sometimes they wave the fee or reduce a portion of it and recently they had like a one week free listing special not sure about amazon just an ebay user

With amazon there is no fee until someone purchases your item, and the listing stays up until it is sold or until you take it down. Also, you see exactly what you will actually make when it is purchased, so there is no surprise when they take their cut.

So there you go... I don't think its any different if you are listing lots of stuff, but it may be, I didn't see anything when I did a quick google search...

Personally,

I think ebay is full of shit. They charge you for a listing even if you dont sell your item. If you do sell your item, they still charge you for the listing AND charge you for a percentage of the item. Then when you get payed through paypal yet another time you are charged for a fee.

I sold a phone for 60 dollars on there which I relisted twice and with all the fees and listing costs I ended up paying 22 dollars to ebay.

Even when you do have a problem, everyone just charges back on paypal noone even really goes to ebay to claim their money back so therefore I dont see why they charge so much.

If you're confident in the item that your selling will bring the price you want, you can list on eb@y for free when starting the bidding at $.99 or less.

You'd still have the final value fees to pay.

How hard is it to get set up on Amazon and what are those upc codes or whatever you call them...

I thought about trying Amazon but don't have a clue how hard it would be...

Its easy to list items on amazon.

If the item is already available on amazon, you can list your article with the ASIN (amazon article number). in this case you don't need to write your own description, you only need to define quantity and price.

If the item is not in the amazon catalogue, you need to list your article with the help of Amazon Flatfiles. In this case you need the UPC, EAN or JAN code. Here you need to write the whole description on your own, product image.....

If your product has no official barcode (UPC, EAN, JAN....), you need to get one!
You are not able to list/sell products without giving it a code listed above.

Like Viltedali said above, If your confident in the current market value for the item(s) your trying to sell, you can surely cut some of ebay's outlandish listing fee's by listing the product low and letting the bidders bid the price up to around the market value..you still pay on the final value sold but at least the front end fees are way less. Thats how I do it.

I use them both, and be warned up front most of your profits will go to eBay and Amazon, commissions can be as high as 15% on some items. Amazon is more upfront and you will see your total profit before listing the item, which is typically smaller than Amazons commission, annoying and frustrating to say the least, but Amazon is a selling machine.


Often I have sold a few hundred dollars worth of products in eBay in a few weeks, only to have them blow through my Pay Pal at the end of the month and wipe out my profit. Unless you have a very very hot product at a low price I do not advise using auctions starting at .99 cents it's a good way to lose money, eBay buyers are very smart and know how to play auctions off each other to get lower prices, and if the item is not really HOT you will probably end up with a final sale of .99 cents to $1.75 it has happened to me many times.

Profit margins on both are razor thin, the key to making money is procuring your items at lowest possible cost and controlling shipping costs.

Amazon is probably best if you don't mind waiting to get paid and can stick to their high customer standards, be very careful drop shipping, drop shippers are famous for getting you bad feed back, and killing your account. Buy small lots and ship yourself, or better yet use Amazon Fulfillment.

I would prefer to go with ebay because i have good experience with it and have purchased lots of things

I generally earn a little more profits on Amazon than feeBay but in the long run, both are really the same.

Simple;
Amazon > ebay.
