eBay refund question

I bought something on eBay a while ago. It wasn't as described so a opened a claim just to get 50% of the price back. I won the claim and got the money back on my card but now the seller messaged me saying they are going to get the money back as I never contacted them on eBay first. (Tbh never knew about that if that's the rules - but paypal decided I was in the right?).

So I've a few questions, what's the chances they will get the refunded amount back ?

And is there any way they can claim
To get all of the price I paid back ? I doubt it but just to make sure.

Is that for definite yes ? If it is I'll spend the money now

And I don't want the other 50%,was just worried if they'd want all of the money back and want the product back aswell.

So basically, even though I didn't contact the seller first about the problem, I will still keep the money yeah ?

There's two things he can do.

1) Contact PayPal and set forth a dispute, almost like an appeal. If you indeed did not contact him, he COULD get his money back. These aren't too common because both sellers and eBay are lazy, but at the right time, this can be processed. If you send the money to your account, PayPal will take the money from your bank account or debit or credit card.

2) If the money reached his actual bank account, and then PayPal took it back once you initiated the dispute and it sat in limbo during the dispute, he can have his bank initiate a chargeback in which case, he takes the money from PayPal back and then PayPal takes it from you. Most people don't know they can do this, but it happens.

I'm curious as to why you didn't even contact the person?

I just wasn't thinking properly tbh. Just thought - something wrong with the product so I'll make a claim.

Is it safe to say if I hear nothing within 30 days the money is mine ? If it is I won't go near it until I'm sure paypal won't take it back.
