ebay or amazon

If you're talking about becoming a seller on Amazon, then go for it. It's a much more pleasant experience than selling on eBay.

Take a look at this book for tips:

go with amazon for sure, ebay used to be great, fun and exciting to use, but for a beginner i would recommend amazon. ebay despite it all is still decent but very different and takes a moment to get things moving on there if ever depending on what u sell.

I'd like to offer parts salvaged from old equipment (stepper motors, lcd, etc). Are these kinds of stuff allowed on both?

Might be a stupid question, but is there anyway to post an item on amazon that's not offered in their catalogue?

Yes, it's possible. But the approval process is much more stringent than posting for other available projects.

Amazon seems like more for big timers with a lot of inventory, whereas ebay seems like the garage sale type. (certain sellers) nowadays.

Although, I have been able to get some cheap items on for under a buck

Much like someone who resells products at garage sales, their next step is to get a spot at a flea market. After that, maybe they get their own actual store.

Replace Garage Sale with "eBay"
Replace "Flea Market" with "Amazon"
Replcace "actual store" with "eCommerce site"

looks like amazon is the best

My biggest issue with Amazon listings is that every seller of that item is visible in one place - the potential buyer finds the item and the cheapest seller generally gets the buy button.

Result? A painful race to the bottom for prices and margins.

At least on eBay buyers have to hunt for the lowest price.

I prefer Ebay for both selling and buying (But I usually use Amazon for PRIME and because I have a lot of GC's)

I don't know about anyone else, but my sales are greatly increasing. Sure you always get a steady increase of sales up until Mid December due to Christmas, but my sales are almost triple of what they were this time last year. This is on Amazon. On eBay... still a little too stagnant. Sure, there are sales, but lets be honest eBay isn't doing too well for me right now.

All of the fees associated with ebay is ridiculous. fees for pictures, invoices, etc. never tried amazon but I might pretty soon.
