Ebay open case: I win

So I just wanted to share an open case I had recently. A buyer from the US ordered a couple products from me valued at around $50 total. I shipped it out with tracking number from a shipping carrier service called "Lasership".

The one problem I noticed is that Lasership's tracking numbers always end with a hypen and a digit, for example: 1LS0398203532-1

When you upload this number to ebay's site, they don't allow any hyphens so the tracking number becomes 1LS03982035321 (all one number) automatically. But this tracking number is no longer
traceable on ebay's site so it will not show any progress.

You'd have to go directly to Lasership tracking page and enter the tracking number with hypen -1
otherwise it will not be found.

The buyer opened the case claiming they never received it but when I checked tracking, it showed it was delivered to their address, comment "left at door".

I've never had an issue with a delivered tracking status "left at door" be a problem. This buyer (who had over 1000 feedbacks so obviously buys a lot) said that leaving packages at the door is not considered a complete delivery, but that the recipient has to sign it.

I told the buyer for standard shipping, nobody signs packages/parcels. It's left at your door if you are not home to receive it. Upgraded shipping would require a signature but not standard. The buyer claimed that if I did not refund them right away, they would leave me a negative. I did not refund them because tracking says it was delivered to their address and whatever happens after the delivery was made, is no longer my responsibility. In other words, if someone stole it or a dog ate it, it's not my fault but the buyer would have to do their own investigation and find out who stole their package by the door. The very next day, the buyer left a negative on my feedbacks saying they didn't receive the item and I didn't offer refund. I replied on the feedback, "tracking shows it was delivered. please don't try to scam me." lol

I left the notes in ebay open case knowing full well that I would not refund this buyer for sure, and this buyer would most likely escalate it to ebay after 4 days or so. I noted that the buyer attempted to negative feedback manipulate me and did. Few days later the buyer did escalate to ebay.

Today I got the notice that ebay closed the case in my favor for reason: You provided tracking that showed the shipment was delivered. Of course my negative feedback won't come off (which is stupid).

BAM! That feels good. I was thinking of private messaging the buyer back to give them a lecture
about how their attempt to scam me failed but calmer heads told me not to and I won't. I'll just leave it.

The buyer may try again with a paypal open case but as long as tracking number shows it was delivered, I'm safe I guess.

Please give me some encouragement....what a day....I had my 2 youtube channels de-monetized today and all the money that should have been paid out to me on the 21st is all gone and they basically let me accrue all that money for the whole month and then de-monetized me on payday (how cruel is that?)...... not to mention I gladly invested $700+ just yesterday (placed orders on amazon) to upgrade my audio setup for my future youtube videos which I can' t monetize now unless I get re-accepted next month when I re-apply. I'm still glad I spent the money to get my Shure SM7B, Cloudlifter, Focusrite Solo, Rode PSA1 boom arm, and some cables....I think I will be able to do some good stuff with that setup down the road.

My online journey has taken a big hit today, but I still have dropshipping (for now) on ebay. I realize this could also end at anytime, too.....but I've had my YT channel since 2007 and my ebay account since 2003. I'm real small time in everything, but I'm trying to figure my out through this crazy world of online moneymaking...the new frontier and there's a lot of pie out there for everyone.....I'll be quitting my job next year cuz I need rest (physically/mentally/emotionally) and hope to spend the year off focusing more on learning how to do CPA, and rebuild my youtube ideas, and keep this dropshipping thing on ebay going.

Buyer was trying to be smart but that tracking did the trick. Nice one mate :)

Btw what kind of youtube channels u had that both of those were demonitized the same day? What kind of content did you produced?

Oh, I need to make a correction. Actually, ebay DID remove the negative feedback left by the buyer after they closed the case in my favor.

Well, long story but will try to keep it short. My main YT channel I have had since 2007 but I never started to monetize it until 2018 haha. The reason? I didn't even know you could make money off youtube until last year LOL. I only used my YT channel to make movie music video tributes to just share my passion
and hobby with the world and most people loved my videos. But once YT became an advertising giant and copyrights came in, monetization came in,
ad companies came in, everything was being copyrighted, blocked, taken down, channel almost terminated, etc. It was crazy!

So I stopped making videos from my passion. It wasn't until 2018 when I realized I already had met the criteria of 1k subs and 4000 watch hours
so I applied for partnership and I got approved right away. From that point on I just started making videos about different things (sports, discussions,
hot topics, world news, animals, etc). I wasn't trying to create a brand or market myself. I was just experimenting and still am. But I really started to
gain a lot of traction lately (went from 2k subs that I got over 11 years, but in the last year I acquire 4k subs due to my busyness of making more videos
after getting accepted into partnership). But I make a ton of mistakes on the way, running into copyright strikes and now this new thing called reused content.
This is the 2nd time getting demonetized based on "reused content". I will try to re-apply again in 30 days after I do some more deleting of videos and
upload more content that is less likely to fall under 'reused content'.

That's my main channel. The 2nd channel was an experiment channel. I made a thread about this back in May or June I believe, you can still find it.
It's called "Experiment gone viral". I asked questions in the beginning such as, would my main YT channel get linked with this experiment channel? I knew
with about 95% certainty this experiment channel would run into problems, hence why it's an experiment. But I didn't want it to somehow cause my main channel
to get de-monetized. I'm still pretty sure my main channel was not de-monetized because of this experiment channel. They just happened to review both channels the same day I guess cuz my payday was here. The experiment channel is under a different YT account/different login, but uses the same adsense account, so the earnings from both channels get pooled together to my adsense which then pays directly to my bank.

The experiment channel actually worked really well in the beginning going from 12 subs to 16,000 subs in just 3 or 4 months, BUT it really slowed down the last month or so until today. The thing that confused me was that copyright and reused content have nothing to do with each other. So even though my videos were all green dollar signs and approved for monetization, it didn't mean I was out of the woods. I didn't know that YT can still retroactively take everything back due to reused content even though it was approved for monetization and had no copyright claims or matched parties.

I suppose I can keep making more videos on that channel since it's not suspended or terminated, just de-monetized. But I've heard people can still make money by posting affiliate links or patreon donations, selling merch etc.

Well here's the thing. The ones that I have used are not copyrighted. So I thought that would put me in the clear. Basically what I did was research around for smaller channels in the niche (because those would be less likely to be copyrighted and reported by anyone) and when I found a couple that I liked, I would down their videos, then I would re-edit them my style and re-up them with no copyright music, but I never narrated or added effects or anything. My style was actually better than the original hence why I even made more view and more subs than the actual original channel did lol. So I knew that I was doing something better than they were BUT of course it's not my original content.
But as long as it was not copyrighted and passed suitable for advertisers, then I'd start making money on it. CPM was very high around 6.90.

The problem is the new "reused content" crackdown. It appears that this is the one that gets everyone, not copyright. Copyright is very easy to see. You are told specifically before you even upload it public if it is copyrighted or not.
But reused content is TRICKY. There is no indication or warning of whether or not your video has any or too much reused content. They just allow you to up them, approve them, get monetized and make money then at the END of the month pay cycle when you are due hundreds of dollars, they take it all away by telling you it's been de-monetized due to reused content. Couldn't they just have told me that in the beginning rather than let all that money grow in the account for the month and then instead of getting paid on payday you get the bad news? Cruel! haha.

But anyways, that's why it's an experiment! I really loved doing it. Learned a lot. Made hay while the sun was high and got good cash out of it. Now I have to proceed onto the next step and figure out what to do with the channel to keep making income OR start another experiment channel repeating the same process unless they have cracked down it even faster and tighter (which seems to be the case).

Reused content is so arbitrary that basically it means, "lazy youtubing". If they see your videos and it looks like you were a lazy youtuber and all you did was re-up someone's video and compiled it, that would be considered lazy I guess?
Who exactly determines what is lazy or not or what is "added value" or not? They don't give you any warnings or specifics on what you can fix. So it's very difficult to know.
 
If you win an ebay case then, ebay now automatically removes any feedback the buyer left (positive or negative) as had a couple of people do the same of claiming the item hadn't arrived but the tracking showed it had.
Obviously there could be genuine buyers who have really had their parcel stolen, there have been occasions of couriers scanning parcels as delivered and stealing it themselves, especially if they can see what is inside from the box labels.

agreed. It's good to know as long as the tracking confirms it's delivered, we the sellers are protected and buyers can't try and scam us either financially or manipulation of feedbacks.

Yes, sadly it's true that parcels do get stolen off their porches/doors, or even workers can steal packages as you said. That however is not and should never be the responsibility of the seller. We can't control that. I do think now many houses have door cams and cams are everywhere so even the workers should have a harder time stealing anything as everything should be recorded on cam.

I do think there is a special situation that a seller might want to take the loss and refund the buyer even if tracking confirms delivered.
Let's say there is a buyer who has been with you for a long time, loyal customer, and has spend hundreds or thousands of dollars with you in the past
never having any problems with orders and suddenly they have one. In this case, I would feel comfortable giving the benefit of the doubt to my buyer
who has proven themselves to be trustworthy and reliable. I believe in giving grace in situations like this.
 
Another thing I would add is something I talked about a long time ago as a problem with ebay's feedback system. Seller's should have the ability to see a buyer's reputation. We should be able to see how many open cases they have filed for in the past year or month, etc. If seller's have to be completely transparent, buyer's should too. If you see a buyer who has made 100 purchases on ebay in the past year and 50% of those orders were open cases as INR or IND or anything else, obviously we could see this is a problematic buyer and should have the option to not sell to these people who have crazy analytics.
If i see a buyer who has made 1,000 orders and has less than 1% open cases, I would know right away without even ever having dealt with the buyer myself personally that this is a trustworthy and reliable person and I would be more apt to giving them the benefit of the doubt and offering them refunds right away, even if having to take a loss.

The reason why I get really hesitant to refund buyers based on their claims is because I don't know who they are, I cannot see any reputation or analytics about their history and buying reputation. All we can see are 100% positive feedbacks because every buyer automatically gets 100% feedbacks which makes no sense at all still to this day. It's my biggest gripe with ebay, has been for years, and still is today.

As in most things in life, it's all about trust. How trust worthy is someone? How trustworthy is a brand? A product? A company? The less trust we have, the less likely business is to flourish. That's why lots of sellers have iffy feelings about buyers with 0 feedbacks. They haven't done anything wrong, it's just that they haven't done anything right yet so sellers are hesitant to sell to buyers with 0 feedbacks OR they add extra stipulations/criteria that has to be met in order to accept a purchase from a buyer with 0 feedbacks. This is exactly the same thing I'm talking about when it comes to buyer's reputation history and analytics.
 
As soon as a buyer is threatening you from leaving a negative review if you don't accept to do what he is asking, you will win the case 100%. Feedback extortion is forbidden on ebay.

Concerning yt reuploading, yes that's strange, sometimes they stick sometimes they don't.
