Hi Friends,

Been reading an article that suggest that Ebay is trying to make it difficult or very hard for the small seller to make $.

The article suggest that ebay is heading in the same direction as Amazon (or trying to),

Anyone else see this trend?

Years back when I ditched Ebay I thought they were business muppets...

Seemingly nothing much changes when the honchos want to rule the world...

Of course with a hidden agenda to turn over - exploit and rip clients in the process...

Yep...i hear you Steel...
Sounds like they are "exploiting the small guy seller."
Bastards....them and Paypal are screwing the small guy over.

Hey, I bet you would not do the same eh?...

They take a 10% commission (might vary according to diff products) from your sales, really I don't see nothing bad there when they have a humongous amount of traffic. Don't you get around a 10% when you sell products on CJ?

Really dont see the big deal... they just act as a massive affiliate, because they are... probably the biggest

/e: you place a product and it sells within days... you might as well do your own seo/rtb and see if the expenses are better than the % ebay takes. On the long run, for sure, but for the small sellers ebay is still a great choice, no fucking doubt.

I haven't noticed any difference

and compared to an offline auction house which charges 15% Does'nt have the same reach

it definitely has its uses

It aint only about that, we are talking about super targeted traffic in massive amounts... seriously, anyone bitching about it should really take a look at it again. If they are on the top is because they deserve to be there, no doubt for me.

ebay and paypal are unfair about how they only side with buyers 90% of the time. However you still can make cash with ebay
you just gotta know how to play that game.

this----Right here...

I would take great enjoyment repeatedly punching some of the eBay and Paypal staff, their attitudes to people are nothing short of disgusting.

Hey Rey,

No doubt that anyone who is doing well on ebay has worked hard to get there. That's not my point. Ebay and Paypal used to be separate companies but now they seem to be on a witch-hunt and every small seller is a target. Too many stories of small sellers getting kicked in the teeth by unscrupulous buyers who get the products they ordered----but turn around and object to the sale and force the small seller to refund their product, accept the products back (sometimes damaged or now useless).

You guys realize that Paypal is owned by Ebay right? :)

And I agree, I stopped using ebay years ago when they raised their percentage up and made it a crummy place to sell things!

There's more money to be made with larger resellers, that's the nature of ROI and operations, so it's natural that they would gravitate to larger partners. However; it's the little guy that innovates and we just need to be aware of the next marketplace opportunity. So besides eBay and I have made some money there in the past, where's the next opportunity?

eBay wants reliable operations, and people who can operate at the bare minimum in pricing and still profit for future business so eBays' business model can continue. Small sellers can't do this.

in 2020, eBay will completely transform into a large product search engine connecting people to the lowest priced items from various distributors and retailers, and decline into financial collapse and become a ghost site before being sold to Google. Niche sites will become larger, as eBay categories will branch out and capture the traffic and they will grow. (Etsy being for handmade goods, soon there will be DigiGiant (made that up) for people to buy/sell used electronics, GamerGamer being the site to buy and sell video games, Gold88 - A collectibles buying and selling platform, etc - the only "Mega eCom" will be Amazon.

Investors seriously jump into whatever is growing in eCommerce at the moment, especially because most wouldn't touch anything that would compete against eBay 3-4 years ago, but Bonanza was kind of like "this is interesting" and pretty much died, and then Etsy came along being more categorized and more specific, became successful, and investors said "this could work" and Etsy earned over 40mil like it was nothing.

I stopped using ebay when they sued me...for something that was clearly not my fault.
It was suddenly quite clear that ebay has no interest in the small fry, unless they can harm them and make money of them.
The amount of money they put into the mere possibility of getting money from me, was far more than the reason they actually sued me in the first place.

I understand where they come from and that they, after all, just want the monkeys - but to fuck over the small ones just because they prefer to deal with the larger partners, and take out the small ones in the process, is just pathetic.
And if you take a look at Paypal...its quite obvious they have exactly the same attitude!

This is very true, doesnt matter how much legitimate proof you provide them. They will make it very very difficult.

Yup very hard to be a small business on ebay nowdays.

I used to love buying cheap stuff in thrift type stores and selling for a profit on ebay, sitting there watching the time count down and suddenly see your bids go up.

But the love has gone from ebay now. It's for large businesses that have taken it over. Large businesses ruin everything.

I can attest that it is still very doable to sell thrift store items on ebay and turn over profit. I also sell antiques on ebay. Most people
get into trouble trying to sell name brand new stuff which trips the vero trigger.

I've noticed that some of these big operations are attempting to charge too much on eBay. It does seem they are trying to use eBay to drive business to their site. If that is what their mindset is eBay would be smart to oust them as they are not going to see the end profits. They are just supplying leads for these businesses.

If you can find a niche the scammers aren't aware of, it's valuable just because of that.

Very True. Once you learn how things work, is when you can start selling some good money
