Screw selling on ebay. Eats up all your profit. Anyone know any other sites to post your stuff besides the normal ones like amazon?

Well that's just bullshit. So I lose yet more profit from the final value fee changes, but since I'm selling media, don't benefit from the listing fee changes.. because there are none for media. Stupid feebay.

They are doing away with the insertion fees upto 50/month I think. So in a way it's kind of good. You only pay when it sells, so you'll have to leave a margin on the S/H price to cover ebay fees.

It was getting to be crazy with $1 for a product and $15 for shipping. This was bound to happen.

$15 is nothing. I've seen items go for $1 with $800 shipping. It's because of those idiots that ebay is doing this.

Because they are just about the only game in town with any name recognition, when it comes to trying to sell to the masses on the internet.

Sure, there are other venues, but the average non-marketer type has no clue about them.

When Great-Aunt Harriet wants to sell her limited edition Elvis plate collection, where is she gonna go? FeeBay, because its all she knows.

Until someone can get a auction site going with as much world-wide name recognition, they are going to continue to be the big dogs on the block, and as such, will continue to do whatever the hell they please, because they have no real competition to lose business to.

As Mel Brooks said, "Its good to be the king..."

Start with a popular and a new one (your own) at the same time. Sell on both and while selling on the popular one, advertise the non-popular one in every possible way, even in that popular website.

I did this a year and a half ago and today I can stay away from feebay. I am having an average of 1-2 sales daily, but since I sell services, about 98% of the revenue turns into profit. I sell also some related goods that are cheaper on feebay, but many prefer to buy from me. I attribute that to (1) promotion and tactics, (2) the customer finding my product first because of that promo and (3) feebay is every time less trusted by many buyers due to scams, Chinese replicas, etc.

I average a net of $3500 - $4000 a month. May be not much, but it's net, no fees and for me is OK for now.

I could not get rid of PayPal due to bad credit, not allowing me to use my own merchant account. So I use paypal standard checkout. Not a problem until now. Now my nightmare is the IRS with the new law for online payment collectors reporting to them after annually $20K or more.

So summarizing, it takes some time, but if you start today, maybe next year or two you will be on your way, laughing out of feebay.

    P.S.

For eCommerce platform, I use ZenCart (free), a TM template I got from a forum (free too), shared hosting (very cheap) and not even have SSL.
